I'm starting this thread to churn up a discussion amongst the Alliance Rings about what our official position on the price of slicing.
THIS IS A DISCUSSION and only a discussion. Monday I will Start a vote Thread and on Wednesday 12 Noon EST. we will close votes and thus have our position.
There are many ways the Alliance can approach this heated issue.
Some say we should set a fixed Price and no one in the Alliance will charge over/under that amount.
Some say we should decide how much a slice is worth as a standard- but do not enforce a fixed price upon the Alliance Members.
And Still others say we should have no opinion as to what a slice will cost. When it comes to matters of pricing we should adapt the don't ask don't tell policy.
There are still other ways to handle this. Please discuss them here.
Again, This is so we can get the ideas together and decide what is best for us.

A set price is the worst thing you can do, it is not needed. By everyone charging different prices we encourage a diverse market place with unlimited growth. Our service is and illegal one and thereforeas an underground market should be varied. The :"You dont like my price find another smuggler" attitude helps everyone from novice to master.

There shouldn't be an official stance on the price of slicing other than: "charge whatever you want". Its a game. Like I keep saying (probably sound like an old man by now): Fixing prices privately amongst yourselves on your server = cool. Fixing prices publicly across all servers = not cool.

Yeah, we shouldn't require a price, but we could come up with something we think a slice is worth. Whoever wants to use that price does, those who don't, that's ok too. That'll happen no matter what. At least we can make a suggestion and maybe others will follow that suggestion enough that it becomes a "standard".

With all do respect my friend I just dont agree with you on this one. The smuggler who charges 10k as a master sends the n00bs to slicers who need xp and people who pay millions for a weapon are willing to pay 10k for a masters slice. While i charge from 4k to 10k based on % others do a flat rate or 4k to 7k, even 10k also you have100 to 250 credits per %. All these price points truly help every class of smuggler once you "set" a price you set population expectation which will kill future growth. Keep the public guessing I say.

I was of the mind that looking at slicing and setting a standard would be harmless thing- I still feel that way- but I DO agree with Col. Samoot's argument on how varied pricing helps Smuggler's of every level.
Personally I charge 5k flat rate- since I can't control the outcome but do provide a service. When I master I will charge a little more as my slices will (should) show improvement.
Does it hurt if the Alliance agrees that a slice is worth anywhere from 4k-10k (these being arbitrary numbers)?
So when someone asks you could say- "The Alliances position is 4k-10k but some charge by the percentage and others charge by the item- Do what you want, kid."
OR when you have a customer situation like this:
Customer: How much to slice?
You: 5k flat fee- 6k for everything over 30%.
Customer: Whoa! I know you guys do illegal stuff but I didn't think you were criminals!
You: The Smuggler's Alliance agrees that a slice is worth 4k-10k. I'm in the Alliance and I charge 5k.
Customer: I've never paid more than 3k for a slice.
You: You could always find someone else.
Personally I think that's the best of both worlds.
But let's keep the discussion going- I think we will find a middle ground well before vote time.

That's why I said "suggest" a price we think a slice is worth. This "suggestion" can also include prices for various levels of slicing skills. And with this being a "suggestion" it's totally up to the individual Smuggler to charge that amount or not.
Other professions have the same general idea (Doc buffs for example) yet you still see varying prices.
