This would be nice!

Under the new system it would remove crafting of spice all together (sorry!) and will replace it with smuggling to obtain the spice.

*Spice branch will be replaced with "Smuggling"

--Novice Smuggler--

A Novice smuggler will be able to take the most simple smuggling operations to obtain spice. To take a spice mission a smuggler must first find the "contact" scattered across the planets in cities. (Note: Try looking in Cantina's) The contact will question what type of "medicine" the smuggler is looking for (Note:This will be the various types of spice the smuggler has access to) and then point the smuggler towards a Spice Specialist (Note: in the same town)thatcan make the spice(Dynamic spawn, spawned when approaching waypoint). When talking to the Spice Specialist the smuggler is told the Specialist does not have the resources to make enough spice for a shipment and tells the Smuggler to see the "producer". (Note: Dynamic Spawn, in same town)

The Smuggler is given a "Sample Spice" to be taken to be manufactured. At this point the Smuggler is holding illegal goods and can be arrested if he is stopped by troopers. When walking within 10m of atown Trooper the smuggler will be stopped and searched... the smuggler can fight ortry to escape (Finishing mission)or ditch the "goods" and run ((Failing the mission)). (Note:Troopers are dynamic spawns and will appear ahead of the smuggler as he goes to his contact.NoviceSmuggler has a40 percent chance to spawn 1 trooper on missions.)

Once the smuggler reaches the "producer" he is given the shipment to be taken back to the Spice Specialist. At this point the smuggler has high visability and must keep from coming within 20 - 30 m ofa trooper. Once the shipment is given to the Spice Specialist the smuggler is given a cut of the shipment.

--Smuggling 1--

At this level smuggling offers a greater range of spice that can be obtained, but at a higher risk.

After talking to the Spice Specialist the smuggler is sent to a producer in another city on the same planet. Because the sample is so small at this stage, the smuggler might also wish to simply distance himself from the guards when bording the shuttle...the sample has low visability and will probably not catch their notice. (Once the shipment is given from the producer, this is no longer an option and the smuggler must find another way) To get there the smuggler must either A) go by speeder / run B) sneak onto a transport.(Note:Shuttles will now have guards posted to keep criminals out, at least in major cities. Guards are not attackable, but will not allow you to board a shuttle if holding a high visablity shipment)

To sneak onto a shuttle a smuggler must first distract the guard. To do this a smuggler has several options:

1) They can overload the terminal close by to draw the guards away from the shuttle as it lands *Slicing is needed for this*

2) They canbuy offthe guards with credits

-- Smuggling 2 --

Here smugglers are given even a greater range of spice that can be obtained from specialists. But again...at a higher risk.

At this stage while the smuggler is transporting both the sample and shipment, troopers will begin spawning regularly patrolling the streets. Smugglers have to be extra careful and take back streets to deliver their shipments.

-- Smuggling 3 ---

Again, more spice options become available.

Smuggling at this stage starts to cross to different planets. After being given the sample from the specialist a smuggler is then sent to a producer on another planet (these spice shipments can only be made with rare resources located on these planets).

Smugglers find themselves dodging troopers at every turn... making smuggling very difficult. Sometimes the smuggler even finds himself under attack from groups of dynamic spawned criminal groups trying to hijack the spice (those this is rare at this stage).

Bording a Starship with a shipment also complicates the smugglers job. In order to board the starship a smuggler must first find a starship worker in the city that could let him "borrow" a passkey to the loading area of the starship.

Workers in different cities demand different things. From credits...to wanting his dagger "fixed" (*sliced)...and then sometimes the smuggler must resort to force. (Note: Workers always drop the passkey, though some are not able to be attacked and must be bought off)

-- Smuggling 4 --

The most rare and exotic of spices

Here attacks by local gangs and groups of troopers who have been tipped off become common.

Not only must the smuggler travel to another planet to have the spice produced...but he must also meet the producer in secret locations out in the wilderness! (It is possible that the producer is being arrested by troopers or being attacked by thugs and the smuggler must save his life. . . or he cant make the shipment!)

Smuggling at this level is the most dangerous . . . only those smugglers who can escape tricky sittuations and avoid a network of troopers can complete the shipments.

Well...this system would be the basic setup for smuggling. When jump to lightspeed comes out...the system can be expanded to include ships and private ships / destinations.

The system would allow smuggler to bring spice into the world without having to actually make it (sorry all those crafters...but thats not a smugglers job!!!). It also adds in a little adventure and has the smuggler trying to avoid troopers and guards while sneaking onto ships and deliver the shipment. If caught the smuggler has a fight on his hands and oftentimes will find himself over his head...being forced to make a break for it.

Being attacked by gangs should be too hard for the smuggler to kill on his own (at least the higher box ones). This makes the smuggler have to feign death and try to sneak away alive. (wee the rush it would be!)

The 2 stages of delivering illegal items is to give different feels for smuggling. The sample, while illegal, is easy to avoid being spotted with if you dont stumble right over a trooper (watch yourself a little...but dont need to be really really careful) The shipment is big and you need to take extra care to get it home safely....sneaking it onto the loading area of the Starship and things like that...also keeping it FAR away from troopers, someone lugging around a big crate...anyone could see!!!

Anyway...just an idea i thought would make smuggler a bit more fun.

'See' Being a relative term.. you look at me and it wouldn't seem as though I'm carrying 500k of reasources 3 Speeders, 5 Droids and 10 Crates of spice under my jacket.. But it woud be nice if carrying that much junk flagged you for a scan...

They had better make VERY effective spices...then.

Why on earth would you go through all that trouble for a few crates of muon....it's practically useless already.

I agree too much trouble for muon. Make it more interesting by smuggling more lucrative stuff like jet pack schematic or something that you have an option of buying off the npc you are delivering it too. But you would have to be a master smuggler to buy the schematic so there wouldnt be a overload of schematics out there ,or have it be a partial schematic so then you need to get the rest of it to be usefull.

Let's hope spices get tweaked for effectiveness if they're going to remain in the game. They are not in demand. When I first became a smuggler, I put a bunch of spices on my vendor, where it rotted. After a couple weeks, I just decided to forget about it. People would rather pay 250k credits for BE enhanced brandy than pay a couple thousand for some muon....Myself included. It's only useful as a panic button since the chef revamp.

Yes, spice should be bumped up a bit...but thats not what this is about.

Its about making a smuggler more smuggler like! Instead of sitting back and running harvesters (what do you want to be crafters? ) and factories (crafters?) and houses with vendors (crafters?) a smuggler would be able to actually smuggle the spice in.

There wouldnt be a ton of spice around so you could charge a bit more for it... (when it gets a boost)

Running around with spice after you have smuggled it wont be as much as a hastle...once you do the mission and get it from the specialist to the producer and back again you wont have to deal with the mission troopers.

There could also be added in some more types of smuggling missions, but like i said this would be the basic system to fit into the game world now....using the systems already in the game. (so it wont take the devs years to give smugglers the ability to actually be a smuggler...this change could be made fast)

The smuggler still would need some more additions and robust smuggling net...but this would be a good step in the right direction.

Really, are you happy selling a crate of spice for a couple thousand credits?(only 1 or 2 spices anyone buys anyway...and even then they dont use it much because of downer)

Are you really happy sitting crafting and harvesting?

yeah I know, I was a smuggler in the beginning trying to push my spice. Even then with no brandy out there it was still hard to push spice, even muon. Only "major" players bought muon. The answer I would usually get is "drugs are bad for you" type answer...even got a "ever heard of DARE you drug pusher!?" Now with the docs, entertainer and chef buffs out there with NO downer, why bother with spice....other than the extreme emergancy.

I am totally in agreement with your proposal-- a solid plan that allows us to do something unique, useful to the player base, and most of all, illegal will be a great addition to the profession.

For the smuggling to be worthwhile, there will have to be adequete rewards for the amount of work it will take. Doc buffs are a great example. I spent many hours a week and loads of cash when I was a MD, so I could make the best buffs. It was worth the effort since you could sell buffs for tidy profit.

Smugglers are all about a tidy profit, so ideas like this that don't involve making nickles and dimes slicing weapons (and doing actual smuggling)is very cool. A risk would be nice as well-- you let your guard down, and suddenly you have a pack of rebels trying to hijack your contraband, or an imperial force coming after you to 'interrogate' you with E11's.

How wonderfull to actualy smuggle anything but if they remove spice or replace it rather they need to bring back our livelyhood. basicaly the missions need to be on par with bounty hunter missions and from the fights you describe they should actually pay more. Anyway if the missions dont pay well then the spice need to be tons better and enough quantity to be of use. I would prefer the higher mission payout personaly. But yes smuggling is something most of us have waited for for a long time.

not trying to flame ya or nothing, but this is a horrible idea. I actually started to type a post much like yours because i don't want smugglers to become chef part 2, just crafting better spices. Then i realized how long, and boring this would get after, oh i don't know, say... the first time you did it. My god man, do you realize how much work that would be as described in your plan. A crate of spice would become more valuable then a good geo blaster. I don't want to craft, but i don't wanna run endless boring missions and waste time sitting around at shuttleports to go to the special npc's.

Yeah, but you got to figure, we ain't getting looked at for ANYTHING of this level until Christmas. AFTER Jump to Lightspeed. Until then, the best we can expect is skill documentation, maybe a spice or 2 to craft, and all the info we've been missing for months. And that right there is the best you could possibly hope for.

So, anything of this magnitude will happen after we're flying ships through space with no wait at Starports. Devs told us Smuggler is a very space-based profession. So, you are correct and wrong at the same time:

Yes, you will need to shuttle hop a lot assuming you are still able to smuggle without the expansion. (which would absolutely send any long-time Smuggler through the roof since that's what we been asking for..since..oh...say Day 1)

No, you won't have to wait on shuttles since this will only happen after the SE and you can just insta jump into your ship.

But, honestly, I really don't care any more. This game **edit**ing sucks now. Master Bounty Hunters won't be able to keep Jedi under control since MBHs can't even take 1/10 of a Padawan's HAM solo. Spices will never be made useful enough to warrant any work for them that could be fun. Smugglers will be PvE pilots in our own little corner. I always "knew" but I never realized it:

Solo4114 was right. We are to parade around with our Master Smuggler tags up just flying everywhere so we can be like theme park mascots: "Ooooo, son, look at that! There's a smuggler! Watch out...he's smuggling!" "Let's go take our picture with him". Nothing but looks, flavor, and atmosphere for others so they can actually feel like they're playing something resembling Star Wars while they grind to be the 96,421st Jedi.
