While I was looking in the SOE knowledge base for info on a command I stumbl;ed across the following

(Both of these are my chosen profs I knew I picked right)

Some Advanced Professions are "Hybrid Professions" which require that you Master two starting professions to be eligible. An example of this would be the Combat Medic, that requires you have Master Marksman and Master Medic to be eligible.

Other Advanced Professions are "Elite Professions" which require you have certain skill branches from specific onions, but NOT require you have Mastered a specific Starting Profession. An example of this would be the Carbineer which requires that you only have all four Carbine skill boxes from the Marksman onion to be eligible, and it is not necessary that you have Master Marksman.

As a Commando, you will be granted abilities that no other combat classes have in their arsenal. Someone who chooses this Hybrid profession will become very familiar with the crafting of grenades, as well as become very proficient with throwing grenades accurately at their enemies. In addition to this, Commandos are capable of using the devastating rocket launcher with precision, making them the Heavy Weapons specialist in Star Wars Galaxies

A Smuggler is a rogue like character who profits from shady deals behind the backs of the authorities. Transporting everything from illegal weapons to refugees through Imperial blockades, the Smuggler becomes a master of subterfuge and manipulation. A Novice Smuggler gains the ability to slice simple locking devices (such as containers) and the ability to acquire several questionable spices.

/sigh

And they make us searching in the KB before sending a ticket... What use is it if the info is either outdated, unaccurate or and just plain wrong

That obviously is outdated - a more up to date version would be:

A Smuggler is a rogue like character who profits from shady deals behind the backs of the authorities, or right in front of the authorities, in fact you can yell out your services with the authorities standing right beside you and they wouldn't care. Transporting everything fromsliced items to sliced weaponsthrough Imperial Crackdown squads - Just like everyone else in the galaxy with a high faction rank and a droid with a storage compartment. The Smuggler becomes a master of subterfuge and manipulation in their own mind. A Novice Smuggler gains the ability to slice simple locking devices (such as containers) and the ability to acquire several questionable spices that are of questionable uselfullness.

Now that's a little more accurate.

But with these changes coming.... the original description is starting to look like it fits.

Once spices get a rehaul in the Combat Upgrade and Smuggler skills actually have an environment to be useful with some new changes... wow! It is coming together baby!!!

I'm pretty damn hopeful right now. I'm reserving unbridled optimism until we learn more from the Dev (hopefully today) about the Smuggler's grouping ability.

Anyone else seeing that Smuggler is THE profession to have as a younger Jedi? Bonuses to evading scans which would hammer the Jedi, if discovered... Feign Death....

I'm not complaining, but this is actually cool. If Jedi start picking up smuggler for anything other than FD, it would show that our profession actually would do what it is designed to

They still would have to drop it as they get more powerful as Jedi, but for a young Jedi, sure, make sence.

With luck older jedi will miss the skill of evasion and ask for our help (if this group thing is a go) when they travel to citys. /shrug

I'm still in favor of making the three Iconic Professions incapable of being dabbled together. No Hunter can be a Smuggler or Jedi. No Jedi can be a Smuggler or Hunter. No Smuggler can be a Jedi or Hunter. In a way it makes sence.

No one in thier right mind would hire a Hunter who's a known Criminal, the same type that's going to be hunted(Jedi and/or Smuggler*).

No one in thier right mind would trust a Smuggler who's known to bring in criminals(Bounty Hunter) or already marked for Death by the Empire(Jedi).

No Light Jedi would engage in Bounty Hunting or Smuggling, as that would go against thier beliefs.

No Dark Jedi would Bounty Hunt or Smuggle(by this game's standards), or rely on thier abilities, because it would be seen as showing themselves to be weak, and the strong must destroy the weak. They see the Force not as a tool to protect the weak, but a weapon to empower the worthy(strong).

V E E L A "her royal hawtness"
I am Jack's Smirking Revenge. I am Jack's Ignored Profession.
Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

It makes a hell of a lot of sense when you look at it from a balance point of view, too. It solves the following:

  • Jedi Exploiting Feign Death

  • Bounty Hunters Exploiting Feign Death

  • It puts an end to the "Pistol God" Template.

  • No more one-man base destruction "teams"(templated of Novice Squad Leader, Slicing 1, Investigation 2, Commando Heavy SupportWeapons 1, Novice Bio-Engineer). The least that would be needed is two players.

Probably quite a few other things as well.
