I only just started smuggler, and have been having fun slicing containers (thanks to the devs for the increased house and inventory capacities!!!), but I need to buy clamps. I found 4 crates on the bazaar for 6k each, and bought those, but every vendor I've visited is selling them for between 9k and 13k.
Was I just lucky on the bazaar, or is this really how much clamps usually cost?

best would be to visit your local Architect, get an equipment factory, buy alot of low-quality copper on the bazaar, and craft them yourself... is a LOT cheaper in the long run...

I can't yet, I'm only Slicing II. I don't get Molecular Clamp schematics until Slicing IV.

You need 90 units of metal to make a clamp so for a crate of 25 that is 2250 units of metal. If you sell at about 3 cpu then that would make the crate cost about 6750. Some people might be selling you the clamps at 5 cpu wich puts the cost of the crate at 11250 credits.
Anyways, you should be able to find crates of clamps cheaper than 12k but some people mark them up hoping that people will pay the price. I knew a guy who sold crates of clamps for 5k a crate and I used to buy them from him but know I just make my own.

aha, so it sounds like I was just kinda lucky with the bazaar - I don't think I'd charge as little as 6k for something that must've cost at least 4.5k in resources (not counting factory costs)
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!

Considering that the most you can put something on the bazaar as an instant sale is 6k, then that makes sense.
I used to buy from a guy's vendor for about 4-5k a box, but that was months ago.
I was also lucky enough to have a Master Smuggler in my guild when I was levelling who gave me clamps for free
Maybe try finding another Master on your server who might help you out - we're all pretty nice guys and know what hassle it is to get slicing xp when you're starting out.
Again, now I just make my own...

Selling at 3 credits per unit is pretty typical and you make a decent profit. To mine the resource you get it pretty cheap(around 1 cpu) but then when you factor in the power and maintance 3-5 cpu is pretty standard.
Weaponsmiths sell stuff at many credits per unit with weapons becuase people have gotten used to seeing weapons a little more expensively. I sell some weapons at the equivelent of about 100 cpu almost yet prices are pretty fair from the customers point of view.

If you have the resources and a factory, give enough of the resources to another smuggler and ask for schematic. Pop that into a factory. Good idea is to offer the smuggler some payment and explain what you need it for. Who knows, maybe he'll do it for nothin... I would...

I never understand why smugglers sell tools to their competition.... but if I did I'd gouge them big time.

LOL - funny thing is - I have a vendor which I use entirely for storage. My friend who owns the vendor puts my clamps on the vendor for 15 - 20K each and Precision Laser Knifes for 12K a box, WUK for 20K a box. I buy my stuff back from the vendor - put a hide on the offer for the sale price (minus a little for the vendor maitenance) and I'm done.
Dammed if people still don't occassionaly buy those items! Thinking of making each box 30K now just to really annoy people ![]()
Cheers
