Is there gonna be a seperate Smuggler Faction? I thought i read this somewhere but i can't find it. The problem i'm having is.....should a smuggler be imperial or rebel aligned? One crazy thing i've noticed is that i'm an Imperial Smuggler but my pilot selction (Smuggler Alliance) is Rebel aligned. What the hell? I'm thinking of changing to Rebel Faction just to keep myself sane. Anyone else have a dilema like mine? What are your thoughts on Smugglers being aligned to a faction? Should we have our own faction where we can play both sides, like hired mercenaries?

If you read the new smuggling revamp notes, it says that there will be missions for factions other than Imp/Reb. However it is not clear if you can be alligned with them (actually joining the faction) but just like in the game now, you can have +5000 or -5000 points towards any faction (Jabba, Nym, Borvo etc) and the npcs willhelp/attack you accordingly. I don't see how much different it would be if you could actually join other neutral factions though, other than gaining rank. But it would be cool if they added that kind of content.

yeah, its just messed up how i'm a rebel aligned pilot because i picked smuggler alliance and i'm imperial on the ground. I have some issues lol. I'm not sure what will happen if i switch to rebel on the ground to match my pilot alliance. ARG !!!

I'm the same- imp on the ground, smugglers alliance in space. The way I see it, the SA is not rebel allinged, as we can shoot anything in space that we want (reb or imp), a truely rebel alligned space faction could not shoot down rebel npc's.
Instead, think of the Smugglers alliance as a criminal faction in space, you are not shooting imp ships to liberate the galaxy like the rebels are, you are shooting them because they are the government and are there to uphold the law.
If this game was set in the new republic era, the smugglers alliance would be shooting rebel ships as they would then be the law.
I think the best way to think of an imperial officeris as a corrupt imperial. Greed, and the persuit of cold hard cash is a central theme to smugglers,(in the EU Han Solo was seen as 'strange' by other smugglers for putting the rebellion above chasing money). Greed is also one of the 'dark side' emotions as itusually leads to hate and anger, so a true smuggler might have some difficulty with the rebellion (most smugglers in starwars are neutral/criminal faction, without a criminal faction in swg we just have to make do).
An imperial smuggler is an imperial who has been corrupted by the dark side, giving into greed and working with criminal factions to smuggle goods, and 'mis-directing' quartermasters stores for their own profit-if your trying to move a load of glitterstim, or harass a rival smuggling groups operations having a real impID clearance would beideal, and illeagaly selling off the armies stores in game is a good justification for selling FP and faction perks.
It will then be required that you will sometimes have tocover your tracks by killing loyal, uncorrupt imperials who would turn you over to face courtmartial ifthey catch you.
So, as a smugglers alliance pilot you can justify killing fellow imps by being a more evil, corrupt imperial than the usual rest
Don't join the rebellion, just sink deaper into the criminal lifestyle

Corsec privateer is rebel, and can hit imperial ships, but not rebel ones.
RSF privateer is imperial, and can hit rebel ships but not imperial ones (and imps can not shoot down RSF fighters)
