Thread: Smuggler missions better involve spaceships and smuggling...

or I'll bereally disappointedif it doesnt. I can't imagine a ground game only smuggling thing where you go to point A and B on a bike or public transportation. That would be absolutely the biggest letdown ever in this game! In the movies and the novels, all smugglers use their spaceships for smuggling, nothing else! Smuggler is a space-centric profession!

I want the travel option removed to where you have to manually fly out into space. Once there, you have to make it a certain distance out from the planet to jump into hyperspace while Imperial starfighters or pirates fly in and try to scan you. If you run they fight back and chase you.Create a skill or let a fake transponder give you a 50-50 chance to hide your cargo. Maybe give an option tojettison the cargo into space and use a tractor beam to pull it back in after the ships have passed by. Let the cargo be stored in a cargo hold like we have for space mining, or create secret compartments that fit in the cargo hold slot. Then do all of this on a timer so it can be really hectic!

All of this is taken from Star Wars movies, games and novels. I did not make up one thing that wasn't pulled from another Star Wars resource. This is how I want to smuggle. Just like in Star Wars. I also bet that most of you want it this way too. Lets make sure the Devs realize we want it this way, or we are going to end up with glorified delivery missions that make you fight a few NPCs at the end.

The problem with this is, that some smugglers might not be pilots. I like the idea, but it could be implemented on the ground too. For example, a smuggler must bring th "package" from Anchorhead to Theed. First he has to bring it past the spaceport officials of Mos Eisley (or competitive smugglers?), then past the spaceport officials in Theed (avoid scans done much more often, and much more effective then they are now), then bring it to the contact in Theed, behind the royal palace, avoiding imperial patrols on the way (possibly using his disguise skill, alloving him to pose as "a noble" or "a merchant" NPCs). If he is discovered (i.e. scanned succesfully), he'll have to either run, or fight his way out (the empire of course calls in reinforcements if he choose to fight). If the mission fails, he'll have to dump the package, and his employer will be pissed (Jabba/Han realationsship anyone), and might hire bountyhunters. Also, a failed mission will build up "visibility" with the empire, and after several failed or nearly failed missions, the empire will put a bounty on the poor smugglers head.
Of course the smuggler can choose to fly the package there by himself, or hire a pilot to do it. In that case, the Starport officials won't be so strict (assuming the ship carries other cargo or something like that), however, most of the scanning will take place in space. Also, pirates and competitive smuggler rings might be interested in the package...
Just my 2 cents...

its always been stated that Smuggler would never realise its potential untill after JTL came out. I really want to be SMUGGLING in my YT-1300 and i'm sure they will include a way for non pilot smugglers to smuggle. In my experince however nearly 90% of the players i meet have some form of pilot skill be it novice or ace. Even if the smuggler didnt have pilot skills with this update shaping up to be what it is its only an incentive for them to pick up jtl. After all what good is a Smuggler without a ship

Still waiting for an answer on this (and indeed all the questions posed).

Lol, I'd be inspiration for me to dust off my Hornet (black and yellow dunelizard) and grind from 1/1/1/1 to Master pilot.

Thanks Wes! Those smuggler missions sound great, just that it has to involve JTL and in a greater way than selecting travel on the starship terminal.

I thought of something else I would add. Han gets boarded prior to Episode IV as Imperial troops search his ship. They find nothing cause he jettisoned the cargo but could not recover it. This is why Jabba is after him.

I'd like to make it where Imperial ships and a shuttle would appear and order you to power down so the shuttle can dock with you. If you let it dock, an officer and two stormtroopers will spawn in your ship and search your ship for contraband. You could fast talk them or let them go about their business, or better yet shoot them. If they find something, you fail the mission and lose the cargo unless you kill or bribe them and escape with the cargo.

i have an idea for a way this could be done. ground smuggling missions could be obtained from an NPC or terminal on the ground (possibly available only by slicing the terminal) and pilot smuggling missions could be obtained by contacting a space NPC/less than lawful space station and running the contraband from there.

A pity this is of no concern to SoE.

A sound idea that should be rather easy to implement.

I very much doubt we will see this in the coming revamp. I imagine the revamp we are getting will be to incorporate smuggler missions and lay the groundwork for JTL specific stuff, then we'd see things to do with spaceships at a later date.

The revamp that we are supposedly getting this side of Christmasis unlikely tobe a 'fix all', any more than the slicing changes were our entire 'revamp'.

I don't know if you guys already know this but there is a space smuggling mission in game already. You have to be a smuggler to take it, go to talus space station and ask for a job when there ask if they have something special for you to do, can't remember the exact convo option but you should be offered a job to transport some cargo. When you get it it starts a reletivly low lvl mission which is quite good fun. You will pick up cargo from one space ship and have to transport it to another. There are a serries of deliveries in which you will get jumped by imperial patrols and bandits all trying to space you and take your cargo.

Try it out its quite good fun as I said and it's worth it just to see the word smuggling in the quest journal.

Yknow wes, there are a TON of cool looking derelict stations in space that would make great drop off points for cargo. make landing at em possible and npc trade available in a nice indoor environment.

For the love of God I finally saw those answers from the devs. What a joke! This is what I was hoping to see in the space section of Smuggling! I can't believe there is no space at all! Might as well hit cancel because this is what I have been waiting for the whole time since launch. Mustafar is nice but its still playing to one shot content like ROTW, not repeatable content like Smuggling could be. I could draw up the whole Smuggling revamp in one night that everyone would love! If it took 3 months to make then take 3 months to do it!

I did that mission; which begs me to ask "why" cant there be more like them? It's already in the game. We arent asking for new Ubber weapons,to be better than xy Profession,we're asking for something that the game should have had on it's release day...content.
