As I was looking at my post count the other day, it had occured to me that I might want to make this something of worth to the game. However, as a former Master Smuggler, and a daily poster in the smuggler forum, what could I have to offer that would be of any worth to the people that matter most to me in this venue?

Everything has been said before. In the past months, we've seen regurgitations of old ideas, some in new formats, but its the same stuff, really. Its getting to the point that I want to post "Simpsons did it" whenever something old is posted as a new idea from a new face on the boards. Don't get me wrong - I appreciate the zeal and enthusiasm of the new blood to try and improve the profession. Unfortunately there isn't anything new in the way of a foundation to build from. You can't take a single family residence and turn it into a highrise and use the same footings.

I could offer a serious and biting criticism on the way we've been treated over the life of my posting career here. But, again, that's not of any worth - most of us already know the history, and thanks to Electricnomad, its there for the new people to read and think on. So anything I have to say on the matter is, again, a rehashing at best. Not to mention, getting the forums dander up is counter productive and a waste of energy and time, expecially since for the most part, I've been trying to be a voice of calm and reason.

So what do I have to offer you? A simple message, one that is often set aside for the easy way to anger. My message is that, no matter how bleak things look, no matter how bad things can get, there is always a brighter tomorrow; you just need to be patient and hold on, tying the knot in the end of the line if you should reach it. Conversely, you can decide to let go, try another game, and then reclimb the rope when and if you feel like returning.

I would like to make the effort that my next 1000 posts will be without rancor or anger, but will contain positive things to add to discussions and threads. This is not to say that I will treat things with all sweetness and light, but there's no point in heaping on more hostility and negativism on a situation that already has a ton of it. Basically, "If you can't post something nice, don't post it at all."

Also, I would like to offer a formal apology to Tiggs, to Goliath, and to anyone else I may have offended in the Brewhaha way back when. I let my anger get the better of me, and I am sorry. And really, what a stupid thing to lose it over - a friendly post about a developer who has nothing to do with the smuggler revamp, who just happened to play one. Not my proudest of moments.

Finally, I would like to thank all of you for making some very fun and exciting memories for me. This is indeed the best forum on the boards, and I am glad to know and be able to talk with you all on a daily basis. You help pass the time at work and more often than not make me smile; which for an overworked and underpaid architect, is worth more than money. (well, almost)

What's really scary is, I think you and I reached the same mindset at around the same time.

Where most of my posts used to be riddled with biting sarcasm and loathing for the Devs, I think I've turned more into a "voice of reason" over the last couple of months.

And at the rate I'm posting, it won't be long before I have a 4000th post. I'll just have to keep better track, lest it become some mundane post somewhere like my 3000th post did.

Nice post Shrendyc, it's always encouraging to see growth in our main contributors in these forums. While it will be quite some time before I make it to 1000, I can only hope that my post is half as good as yours.

I have really enjoyed the turn a lot of the "ol' scoundrels" have taken the past few months. You and Drev are not the only ones. I have seen much mellower posts from a lot of the old timers. It is refreshing to see, and I think it is our duty to usher in the new generations of Smugglers not with the hostility and cynicism we experienced, but with the hope and optimism of what is to come.
