I posted this idea whilst thinking as it came to my head while replying to another thread. I liked it so much, that it seemed to warrant a thread to see what you all think.
With the new civilian/combatant/special forces factional changes coming, how are combatant smugglers going to be able to make use of scan avoidance? My proposal was as follows as an addition to the Underworld tree:
Novice Smugler
/maskFaction self ability granted
+5 to Scan Avoidance
Underworld I
+10 to Scan Avoidance
Underworld II
+5 to Scan Avoidance
Underworld III
/maskFaction group
+10 to Scan Avoidance
Underworld IV
+10 to Scan Avoidance
Master Smuggler
+15 to Scan Avoidance
/fakeIdentification - This skill would enable master smugglers to allow 100% safe passage for group (for 5-10mins) through hostile areas and usable once per hour (or maybe 2 hours)
_____________________________________________________
This would work like the Scout /maskscent ability with a chance to fail during heavy aggresive areas and high end mobs increasing as the danger level does. The only exception to this would be the Master Smuggler /falseIdentification skill, but it is limited use on a timer. It might be an idea though to have fake ideas craftable or sliced by a slicer in another form in order to spread skills out in the trees.
This would be used for PvE to escort crafters and weaker players through scan teams etc. For PvP it would need some tweaking in order to avoid griefing, but might be interesting to see some form of it allowing a "roguish" first strike capability (read sneak attack).
At the very least this could keep one of our abilities in faction and make use of it with the new changes coming. I would hate for scan team avoidance to be left to people "on leave" or civilians and this would be a very good chance to actually smuggle people/gear through various hostile environments.
Please post any feedback positive or negative, it is an idea I liked, but many mayfind holes or problems with the idea. Anyone love/hate it?

awesome idea /maskfaction, maybe getting /fakeidentification for just yourself would be cool(i think doing it for a group might be a little much) I can only imagine an impgroup of "overt fake rebs" hangin out in some reb. player town and right as that one smuggler'stemp timer goes off...well i can only imagine. it would be neat tho.
maybe /fakeIdentification for yourself gives u the ability to wear whatever faction armor u want(which would probably get alot of ppl to become smuggler).

yea I think that's an awesome idea, the devs ought to think about sticking that into the smuggler revamp

Scan avoidance is a great idea, one I and many others have kicked around before but the more it pops up the more attention it gets
Mask faction sounds nice, but what would it do that simply going on "leave" could not?
I'm a colonel and once this new TEFless system is live, I'll be on leave nearly all the time (to better facilitate working both sides of the fence) each other status
will have specific purpouses Spec forces for base raiding and other PVP when I feellike those acctivities, and you can bet I'm not gona be slicing or selling faction in the midst of combat. Combatant for FP sales and such (unless I can do that "on leave") and On leave for general day to day suff.
The problem I see with being able to turn on and off your faction status is, its essentialy a reverse TEF and would be abused in much the same way.
