Thread: Fake IDs

I just thought in a different way about the whole ID thing. This wouldn't cause a choke-point at Starports (or Shuttleports for that matter), because all the system would have to do is track who came in, which the client/server already does. In addition, IDs that are poorly made or getting a little old could flag that person as "suspicious" to the local authorities/Imperials (emphasis on LOCAL AUTHORITIES, making imps susceptible too). This would work on ships too of course, because every time you went to a station you would be broadcasting that signal instead of your actual one.

On land you have a fake ID, maybe one that allowed you to carry more dangerous weapons (aka sliced weaps) maybe the same or a different one that changed your name. This would change your name that's above your head and everything. You would be able to use names that are already in the game, player or NPC. Sure, you could choose Darth Vader, but I think that the authorities might not believe you. That way you don't constantly get rejected trying to pick a fake name, just cause it's fake to you, doesn't mean it's not a real name. Every time you used a service like a shuttle, starport, Garage, bazaar (not bank, because that just isn't believeable, maybe using the banks would be a risk, because you would HAVE to use your own name, meaning that you could still get tracked that way)

This would work in space too, because I think that SMuggler missions should be partially in space too, not always, and not never, but sometimes yes, sometimes no. If you haven't got JTL yet, you just have to realize that you are cutting yourself out of content, not SOE cutting you out of it. Anyways, You would have a fake ID for your ship that would broadcast a fake ID, which Starports would pick up once you are within, oh, 4000m of it, flagging that you are in the area.

Ok, I'm going backward a bit, but this whole concept would totally negate the need for droids. A BH would simply inquire about your whereabouts at a NPC or even like an additional option on the BH/Travel Terminals. BH's do a legal service, looking for criminals, so the authorities (however begrudgingly done) would be helping the BH find you, thereby giving them information as to your whereabouts. The SPYnet npcs would maybe tell the BH where you were an hour ago, or 2 hours ago, but the BH would have to use some skill other than (follow that waypoint) this would make the hunt more dynamic than "GO THERE", but still fun, because the thrill of the chase is a bit more difficult. This would of course work on Jedi too, but I don't want to bring them up much.

Ok, I know some of the ideas are fragmented, but if any of the good smuggling ideas that have been tossed around finally make it into the game, this is a different way to think abou the "behind the scenes" aspect of what the changes will do. BHs need a better way to track, and we need good ways to evade them. A jedi is a tough hunt because they are a tough fight at the end (unless the FD, which Ymaz and Ternque are hashing out right now) while Smugglers should be the hunt that is difficult in itself, we might not be as much of a fight if/when they catch us, but we are much tougher to catch.

Please modify any of these ideas, and tell me where a concept wouldn't work. This whole thing kinda came to me while typing it up and pulling from memory what other threads have proposed, so bear with me if it's kinda out of sync.

Oh, I don't think that Smugglers would be the ones to necessarily make the Fake IDs. This is maybe something a politician should do, and maybe you'd need a shipwright or DE to make the ship fake Transponders
