Well, that's just crap as I didn't get any warning message, and had NO idea knowing that it won't be slice-able afterwards. The warning message just said I'll be the only one able to wear it, but it didn't say anything about slicing! That's just illogical and plain stupid. You can trade it to the slicer but he cannot slice it?! Thanks SOE!

Well, you could just learn to get along without your illegal modifications.

Why you'd want to subject your pretty-darn-good-already armor to a slice that's likely to be pretty low but still high enough to boost the encumberance over your mitigations is beyond me, but if you really wanted that done, it might have been smart to come ask about it *before* you did anything with the armor.

Sorry, but I don't really understand as I've been away from the game for quite awhile. What you are trying to say is that currently, post-CU, slicing is hazardous and can actually cost more harm than benefit? Could somebody please explain how this can happen exactly? Thank you!

I'm saying that slicing armor increases its effectiveness. The hindrance of armor is directly tied to the effectivness of the armor, as per my understanding of the AS forum's information. therefore, Armor with an already high effectivness that is made moreso, may increase the hindrance to the point where master-level Mitigation no longer compensates for the full effect of the armor. As far as i can tell, Katarn Armor is pretty beefy for battle armor without a slice, and I'm not interested in unmitigated hindrance due to added effectiveness i don't need, personally.

Not to mention, more effectiveness = more absorbed damage = more condition lost per shot = severly reduced lifetime of some darn sexy armor you can't get any more of(without paying millions).

You should probably run down some old posts from the last few weeks about how weapon-slicing works now, too, before you mistakenly slice a pre-CU weapon into junk. If you have an unsliced pre-CU weapon with that kind of quality, anyway.

Thanks a lot for the clarification! Hopefully somebody will do the math and will announce exactly whether it's worth it to slice a Katarn armor or not, but I'm more relaxed now anyway

Slicing is currently, for armor and weapons, mostly an avenue to make a mediocre item a good item, or a merely-good item a quality one. Once you hit the upper end of unsliced gear, it starts doing more harm than good. Katarn armor's pretty up there in the Land of Diminishing Returns.

Gone are the days when "everything should be sliced". You need to get out of that mindset. And if your smuggler can't tell you whether something should or shouldn't be sliced and why, it's time to find a new one. Or you'll be shelling out for new gear a lot more often.

this is all subject to change when we get the new slicing system, which we know very little about right now.

I sliced my scout trooper armor and got a small hinderance... I'm now over my mitigation... by only 0.01% on speed, and accuracy and 0.02% rate of fire. (I think, it's something like that... but the exact ones it's on may be off a little, pretty sure I got one of them right)
