hello im not a smuggler and have never been one, i think smuggler could be the most interesting class in swg if soe would let it but thats out of my hands im afraid. if i had my way commandos would rule lol, in reality im a jedi which for me has cool rp value. my idea is that a master smuggler holding the highest rank of his chosen faction should be able to declare other player overt on the fly. now this could cost the smuggler maybe x amount of faction or maybe money or could be free or maybe theplayer wanting the hook up from the smuggler could foot the bill if there is to be any cost.

of course i think its about time for u guys to actually start smuggling stuff, we have several multi passanger ships, pvp in space, and an inspection and docking ability available to all ships, a bh or maybe even another smuggler could take a misison from a smuggling terminal(?) and attempt to intercept your cargo. now once the oposing guy has a read on your cargo via inspection command he could then dock and board your ship creating an instanced zone in the multi person ship. the 2 crews would then duke it out for control of the cargo in question. failure results in loss of your smuggling mission, potential credits to earn, and faction loss similar to jedi xp loss(obviously not in the 100's of thousands like we do lol) and possibly minor dmg to the losing crew ships. and to the victor goes the spoils and a nice faction bonus. this could create a kinda underground gcw and give the poor fresh padawans a break till they get their strenght up a little(im full template but i still look out for my own) and give smugglers something cooler to do than sell dope.

Why Smuggler and not, say, a Squad Leader, or just a person with a sufficient factional rank (afer a revamp making the ranks actually meaningful and hard to get/keep, of course)? Those would be my first two choices for military-oriented abilities like that.

the reason i chose smuggler is because they are already pretty involved in the 2 factions already

not all of us are. were Han or Lando involed in any organized military? no.

Smugglers should be working for whoever pays the most. we shouldn't even have to be high ranking to profit off the war. we should be gunrunning and selling out Rebel base locations, and other such scoundrel-type activities.

I was daydreaming about a smuggler system myself earlier today. It involved a smuggling mission system. For low level smugglers, one could get cheap payout missions from their faction or from Jabba/Lady Valarian or whoever else. As you progress you wouldn't get higher payout from faction specific smuggling missions, but rather bounce between the highest paying employer whether it be Jabba or whoever else at the time as they would most realistically provide the highly illegal contraband to smuggle. I just don't feel it's realistic to expect a high payout smuggling mission from the Rebels or the Imps. One would get these missions from a terminal or npcs. Failure of high level missions gets you hunted by NPC BHs, since smuggler isn't strong enough to be on the BH terminals really, and you would lose faction points with the employer. Thus if you were a terrible smuggler, you'd have to gain back faction in order to get work from anyone. I was thinking that, assuming most people have JTL, high level smuggling missions could require space travel. If you have the mission taken out, you would onlybe able to travel by launching into space and hypering into the necessary system, thus allowing for patrols to intercept you or attempt to thwart you. This of course would be more interesting upon addition of capital ships.

Of course my jumbled, unorganized idea is probably along the lines of something people have posted here 10,000 times over. I just haven't read through a lot yet.

I always felt we should be able to buy/sell from both factions without having to worry bout ranking. Make the risk that some high-end troops of the faction you are buying from spawn to tech you a lesson or something. I'd feel much better as a neutral smuggler then as the faction-related one I am now just to be able to make some money..
