This announcement of pushing the Smuggler Revamp comes as no surprise to me, whatsoever.
Take a look through this forum. Pore over the the In Concept thread. Show me a line from any Developer or Thunderheart that remotely discusses some change they've decided on for us. Point out one single decision made on combat bonuses, pistol accuracy/speed, or even a nod to the line of Underworld.
There aren't any.
To those of you who know this and are still surprised by the push of the Revamp release, ask yourselves this question: Did I ever think they even had a clue what they were going to do?
This vague answer from Thunderheart makes it glaringly obvious that not only do they not have any ideas for smuggling, they haven't devoted any development time to it at all. "Just string them along with 'Wait for the combat balance', and when we get there, let's pretend that we have a bigger vision for them." I can just hear the smarmy chuckling from SOE's cubicles.
This is the LAST straw for me. There was a hint that a single developer has been devoted to making a few changes to our trees in the interim (likely a little snack to keep some people around for the Combat Balance), but that's it. No real additions, no information, no timetable. Well, guess what, SOE? No money either.
My three accounts have a few months on them, but they go buh-bye as of this evening.
What's going to keep me from quitting? More information from the Devs beyond "something, someday". I've been a customer of Sony's for years now, and a subscriber to SW:G since release. I've watched stupid decision take root with really poor publishes, and a hundred revisions to a dozen different mechanic implementations that the community didn't even ask for, and in many cases, fought against.
The one thing this game was doing right were monthly Acts, keeping a storyline running in the setting of ESRB. Now, the discussion, implementation, and revamp (THAT one came out real **edit**in' quick, didn't it TH?) of Jedi has taken precedence over everything. They've pushed back a combat balance that they mentioned and began SEVEN MONTHS AGO. The monthly storylines have stopped. Smugglers have been flat-out blown off. Droid Engineers got a half-assed publish, and Image Designers have become a ridiculous collection of inappropriate skills. Carbineers have seen some changes, but every single class has been touched gingerly with the knowledge that it's all getting rewritten and reworked.
Nobody knows what the game is going to be like in a month or two, and it's going to be unrecognizable from what I originally subscribed to. This might be a good thing, but with continuity and atmosphere thrown out of the window for the sake of Jedi-fanboy Dev interests, I **edit**in' doubt it.
Maybe I'll be wrong. SOE had better hope so, or they get to subtract $45 from the hundreds of thousands in cash they milk from the dissatisfied playerbase every 30 days.
