I was wondering, if you only wanted the ability to feign death, the advantages of getting more than the first block in dirty fighting is.

Well, you see..
just cause you have DF1 does NOT meant hat you are going to be successful every time. However if it does work, then you can lie there forever if you like.
Chances of a successful rise with each box you have. If you don't use the skill often before getting DF4, then you might never have noticed it failing, but it does, and can to a MS as well

In fact, I've failed more times at higher levels than I did at the lower levels.

I have only DF1 on one of my characters and I have failed FD a few times. Not a real problem so far, as I mainly use it to break the aggro limit so I can damage more than 5 mobs at once.
My Master Smuggler, I don't think has ever failed, though he has used it somewhat less.

Yeah, the higher the mod, the less likely you are to fail, but since you start out with such a high feign death mod at Dirty Fighting 1...
