Last weekend, I used 33 containers to get 3250 xp, i.e., I was successful on 13 out of 30.

Is that par for the course ?

If your not using any Tools, I'd say your actually got lucky to get that many.

For better results try:

Use a FAN: 75% chance of telling you the right wire to cut 1st...

Roll a chance cube: Comes up with a Red/Blue value that is seemingly more accurate than using a FAN

Usemultiple FANs: and cut whichever wiremore of themtell you is correct. This is more accurate than both the single FAN and the Chance cube.

Do What EVERYONE else does and use a Molecular Clamp: 100% chance of telling you the right wire.

If I had them when I was a novice I would have used them, unfortunatly last sept they weren't widely available, so I had to use the 'other' methods, which didn't turn out to be so bad...

Old saying (the actual saying of it escapes me) basically says you've got to spend in order to earn.

Go out, buy three crates of Clamps. Enjoy the XP.

That would sum it up, yes.

You'll still need containers through Slicing II, as those terminals are not XP loving.

Firstly, thank you all for replying.

Call me Mr Thicky but, after reading the instructions, I thought a Novice Smuggler couldn't use FANS until slicing II and couldn't use clamps until slicing IV !

Are you know saying that Novice Smuggler can use any of these tools that have not appeared as schemas in the datapad yet ?

[In which case I could have got 20 out of 20 !!]

Any smuggler, novice to master, can use clamps. I don't think you can craft your own until the levels you mentioned though. Hope that helps ya.

/agree with Duckfat...

If you use a Moleclamp and it tells you to cut the Blue wire, if you then Cancel the slice and start over with another Moleclamp, it might thentell you to cut the Red wire. I've seen this numerous times. So obviously the wire to cut can change at any point in time up until you've been told which wire. So using multiple FANs won't help.

My results seemed very effective back then, but maybe I was just lucky. On the other hand I've never tried this with clamps(after why mess witha sure thing). Though IF it only changes if you cancel and try again than it may still work to use multiple as you don't have to cancel in order to use more than one.

This really does nothing to increase your chances. It seems there is a mechanism to prevent you from using multiple FANs to get closerto 100%as the wire to cut changes with every use. This is evident when you try using multiple clamps. Clamps are 100% effective but when you use more than one on a slice sometimes the wire to cut changes.
