If i resign from a faction do i lose all my rank? If i re-enlist, do i start off at private again?
I guess my motivation here is to see if i can hold a high rank in rebel and imperial at the same time.
feel free to shoot me down -- thats what i'm here for.

Check the FAQ stickied at the top, but yeah. If you resign you lose your rank and have to redo from start. I wish WE could hold a rank in both factions. Perhaps up to colonel in one and up to 1/2 the FP cost in another... (whatever rank that would get you to).

I'm new to the game and working on TKM/Commando.
This leaves me with 18 points left to play with.
I was thinking Feign Death and perhaps Slicing1.
I havent done hardly any missions but I hear slicing comes in handy? Is novice smuggler enough for that or should I training slicing1? or should it be higher?
I thought novice smuggler might nice to have to open my own containers...
Just looking for suggestions as to what might be more useful.

You'd only need slicing 1 if you wanted to open containers. Feign death isn't a bad idea either.
You could always go up a tree in pistoleer for +X speed so you'd be more effective with the launcher pistol. *shrug*

the only thing you get outta slicing 1 is slicing base terminal and increased payout for slicing mission terminal. i would probably go as high up in the pistol speed line as you can like the other guy said, or get 1000 scout because some organics can go for up to 300 cpu (atleast on my server) and running slow up hills is really boring for me atleast. you could also get novice medic to heal yourself, but its overrated imo.

I've got a quick newb question too. Do you get more money for slicing missions as you go higher up the slicing tree, or does it stay the same as when you just have slicing 1? Thanks...
