Smuggler Archive

I would really like one day to be a smuggler in SWG, it is the profession I wanted most when I bought the game. My question to all of you is this, is it worth it at this time? What do you think the smuggler role long term? Will it have a heavy effect on JTL? KK that was three questions, and having not read a lot of the smuggler threads, any advice in general for an aspiring smuggler?

Before I say anything, I will put a disclaimer on this post because it is very possible I have become an old bitter Smuggler.

Right now the profession is in pretty bad shape. You *can* make a lot of money off it though, but there is no smuggling involved in the prof other than the title, and you might begin to feel like a drug dealing slice monkey after a short time with the prof. Because you have already missed out on the feign death, panic shot, and spice nerfs, there is a good chance you might still enjoy the profession, simply because you haven't seen it in a better state.

As far as the future of the prof is concerned, the devs have promised to someday fix Smuggler. They are also using JTL as part of their reasoning for delaying the Smuggler Revamp, so hopefully the smuggler prof will play a big role in space. No way to tell right now if the devs are being honest though, or just up to their usual tricks to keep us off their back, so don't get too excited. Letdowns = bad.

I believe Smuggler is to be revamped after JTL (which could mean sometime next year), so better to just wait and see. I would recommend going for Pistoleer or TKA first, then checking back in on the profession.

Thanks for the warning, I was on my way to TKA, guess I will hold that line till I hear from SOE on a revamp.

Since the smuggler revamp was pushed out (again), you will find your investment in skill points may leave you feeling a little empty.

One benefit to mastering it now: I'll be willing to bet it will be a lot harder to master Smuggler after the revamp, as well as the combat revamp. Plus, you still get a couple pistol specials and you can slice and sell FP for money, but overall it's a style thing. I like being a Smuggler, it's just that I can't turn the tag on unless I am open for slicing business.
