Thread: An idea for the revamp: Charge a duty fee on the bazaars that Smugglers can waive

I've thought of a good idea for increasing the smuggler's skills. It may have been proposed before, but I thought it was too good not to mention here.

Charge a fee for buying items on a different planet through the bazaar. But, let the smuggler waive this fee, or reduce it incrementally through the skill tree. That way, the smuggler could charge other people to buy items for them off planet, and then deliver them to the buyer. The duty fee and travel costs would have to be balanced to make this profitable for the smuggler. This may mean the smuggler will have to get reduced travel costs also, or perhaps it won't be necessary when they have thier own ship in JTL.

My vision of how this would work is the following. You see some iron being sold on Dantooine, but you are on Tatooine. To buy it yourself would cost you an extra 2000 credits because of the duty fee. But, you can pay that low-life hanging out by the bazaar 1000 credits to buy it for you. The smuggler buys the item, goes to Dantooine to pick it up. The customer could wait on Tatooine or follow the smuggler to Dantooine (Probably different smuggling charges). Then the smuggler could give it to the customer in secure trade, ensuring that they get paid.

As I said, the travel costs would have to be weighed against the duty fee to make this profitable for the smuggler. The smuggler could also line up multiple customers at once to reduce overhead. I believe this idea brings the smuggler more in line with the iconic smuggling character: shipping goods from one place to another while avoiding government fees and taxes.

Some spin-offs from this basic idea: Have higher fees for spice and sliced goods, making such contraband too expensive to purchase without a smuggler; have some items that ONLY a smuggler can buy from the bazaar. Thus you would require a smuggler to pick up that crate of Muon Gold for you. The list of things a smuggler could purchase would increase up the skill tree.

Had one more thought:

The duty fee could be based on your declared residence, such that if you live on Tatooine a bazaar purchase on Dantooine still gets charged a duty tax, even if you travel to Dantooine before you purchase it. This would make smuggler's even more necessary to the community.
