Thread: The morals of The Smuggler.
First of all I’d like to say that SOE is showing a lot of trust in us by inviting us to participate in the revamp discussion. Don’t take it lightly since I myself left Asherons Call 2 because of all the nerfs on the game without even consulting the players.
Now if they take our opinions in consideration … well that’s another matter.
The Smuggler.
In Real Life when you gain knowledge that someone is a smuggler asking for illegal weapons or shady substances is not the first thing you do, instead you distance yourself from such a person. Fraternisation with such people will eventually result into a visit from law enforcement and even though most of us live in democracies such a visit is not on our top ten list of things we want to happen to us.
Imagine now how reluctant you would be to such a visit if you lived in a galaxy far away ruled by the Emperor and his Lackey Darth Vader.
What’s my point.
The Smuggler profession as I see it can influence a lot in the current game mechanics. It can be the catalyst that brings balance in the game. Why balance?
Today you must be stupid not having all your gear sliced. Actually it should be the other way around.
“You must have BIG cojones” (Pardon my phrase) to have one sliced item or spice on you not to mention a sliced Composite Armour Set. Such items should create visibility. A 35% slice should lit all the red lamps on all BH terminals in the galaxy and make you target for every BH that exists. Puking in public (not the emote) should create visibility. More like Jedi using his lightsaber in public.
In short:
- Smuggler should appear in BH terminals when he reaches a certain number of slice percentages. Lets say 200% in a certain period of time.
- The person that equips the sliced items should also gain visibility depending on how many sliced items he has equipped and for how long he has them equipped.
- Certain slices should produce instant BH missions. (High end slices).
- Public usage of spices should create visibility. (Haven’t seen anyone taking heavy drugs in public)
This balances the use of sliced items and spices and it makes the Bounty Hunter profession even more interesting.
Back to the balance.
Today with a little planning and with the help of a Smuggler anyone can master any combat profession except Bounty Hunter within a day. Come on this is not the way it should be. For example I can say that as a novice Pistoleer I use my sliced 230 max damage republic blaster adding a power-up gives me 300+ max damage and I can kill most things (lairs) by just starting my pointblankarea1 spam macro and taking a coffee. My 80% kinetic armor takes care of the rest.
Such high-end armour should be the sliced one and not the one produced by Armour-smiths.
Like the game is now there is no penalty for doing illegal things which I find strange.
There must be “Crime and Punishment” in higher degree than today. Even though there will be more frequent scans nothing will change. Who can’t kill 4-5 storm-troopers today I just pull out my VK:s and 1 minute after they are history. But if the one coming after you is a player well that’s another story. Balance by terror and intimidation.
Im a nerf hater but killing 3 times 3 enraged rancors + the brute solo without even sweating its not Role play for me. Surely I like being “Uber-Mastah-Killah” but it takes the fun out of the game.
I am prepared to wait longer than announced for the smuggler revamp as long as I get more Role Play and Realism in the proffesion.

Where is the terror in a BH comeing after you, if you are smuggler?
Usually a smuggler have two choices against a BH:
- If the smuggler is prerpared for the encounter (Full buffed, Full highend armor equipped, Food and spices ready to eat in the toolbar): Just kill the annoying BH.
- If the smuggler is not prepared, or if the BH comes with friend: Unwear, if applicable, your armor and FD till the BH get tired and goes away to find something more fun to do.

if you have a combat elite profession BH is pretty much a delay more than a danger (I am master rifleman and i can kill mostBH in 1vs1, I know I duel them for fun
Things need to go back to the way they were in beta, where everything was more difficult. The novice guys got in groups of 8 or more to attack ronto's. And the higher lvl guys got in groups to attack rancors, Nightsisters and more. The high level stuff COULD NOT BE SOLO'D.
That doesn't mean there wasn't anything you could do solo, there's always plenty of that. It just means that many things should have to be undertaken in a group dynamic, where everyone knows their role and does it.
I hope they implement all this stuff, this game needs to be much harder.
