i believe GM has been the smuggler dev for almost a year now. and i have heard all these promises before. and sometime after JTL i expect for some other excuse and the request from GM for all smugglers to pool ideas for a revamp =( that is why i have made the tough decision to leave my friends and cancel my account =/ i dunno why everyoneacts likethis is like the first time smugglers were rumored to be getting a revamp, we have been thru this before, and will prolly go thru it again.

You're missing the point. Even if the revamp gets pushed back a publish or two from when we expect it, we can at least help Green Marine compose a very sound design document. This means that when the revamp DOES happen the design document will be nearly done (would just need approval and tweaking by the top brass), so there'd be no need for "focus groups" and crap. They'd be able to just get straight to work, instead of having to do all kinds of discussions beforehand.

This also means that if something should go wrong when the revamp finally happens, SOE can say: "Well, it's your fault smuggler community. We listened to your ideas and we implemented them. So it is your ideas that are broken".

I just think abouteveryone paying $15 a month to a company to come up with and implement ideas for a game. Why should people pay to give gameplay ideas to a company? Isn't that the developer's job?

And the 'revamp' isn't pushed back a publish or two. It's pushed back until next year. It sounds like it is 'right around the corner' when the phrase "pushed back a publish or two is used". Jump to Light Speed isn't due out until "Fall". Which is the Oct-Dec quarter. If it occurs at all, of which I have no reason yet to believe otherwise, it will not be until January - February of 2005 at least.

he's probly right about the release but I was a bh before I went smuggler. I know what it is like to sit around waiting for even someone to come say hi on the boards.

Well what I am trying to say is there is now hope where there was none before.

Yes, it is the developers job, BUT they're allowing us to give them massive amounts of input so we don't get a revamp called "this is what you're getting, shut up and like it" we get one called "this is what you asked for, we hope it turned out as good as all your ideas and input."

Giving them ideas and input isn't doing their jobs for them, it's helping them understand what we want so they can actually do their jobs at all. If you don't want to help, then don't help, but then if something happens with the revamp you don't like you can't complain because you were given the option to provide input and you chose not too.

So what does it boil down to? If you help, and the revamps turns out like crap then it's partly your fault for helping (at least that's what you said, I don't subscribe to that idea), but if you don't help and the revamps is crap then it's still partly your fault because you had a chance to provide input and make things better but elected not to. So pick which evil you'd prefer, because no matter what if the revamp bombs then you still lose.

Here's a better option than either of those: help out, and stop assuming the revamp will be utter crap, and if you still don't like it then just quit the game because you're apparently not enjoying it.

Cripes, don't be so self-ish with this "give me what I want, but I'm not going to help you understand what I want" attitude. The Developers are humans, just like you and me (which means they make mistakes too, despite the fact that nobody around here seems to comprehend why things go wrong sometimes); they are not mind readers and cannot give you what you want without you telling them. It's their job to make the game better; it's not their job to call up Miss Cleo to get a psychic reading on the player-base's desires.

my point wasn't that we are doing the devs jobs by giving them ideas, but we have been thru this twice already. and the last 2 times they said they needed "ideas for a revamp"it was mearly a stall tactic on their part and i fear this may be another.

No it's not developers' job. Developer develop hence the name. Concpet designers, game masters, project managers etc. define what developers do. Developers are fed pizzas under doors and a few cigars from time to time with booze to motivate them. I know i'm a developer in the gaming industry...

I don't know what SOE calls Dev on the boards though.

Leave the developers alone they need peace and quiet to design our futur.

I am impressed with your ability to pull out information from my post that I did not write.

Drop the "you obviously don't enjoy the game" lines, because if I didn't, I wouldn't be here. I left for four months because I wasn't enjoying what happened with the Imperial Crackdown. I know I have the ability to do it, and I did.

I came back and I am enjoying the game again.

help out, and stop assuming the revamp will be utter crap, and if you still don't like it then just quit the game because you're apparently not enjoying it.

I think I understand where you got this impression from me. My negativity is not on how "bad" the update is going to be, my negativity is on "when" it isgoing to happen. I think the revamp itselfis going to be great.

The entire point of my post is that there is no praise or "worshipping" to be given to anyone, because everything that is talked about are ideas only. Nothing has happened, and nothing will happen for a very long time.

Cripes, don't be so self-ish with this "give me what I want, but I'm not going to help you understand what I want" attitude.

Just do a search on me and you'll see all of the posts I made regarding the Imperial Crackdown and how broken it was on the test server. And then it goes live and stays that way.

Read the other posts I have made where I have made suggestions on gameplay and game mechanics.

Don't have time to do that? I don't care. But you found something in my post that made you think I haven't been giving the developers feedback.

There is a big difference between "Give us feedback and tell us what you'd like to see" and "So, we have no clue what we're doing here, why don't you tell us what we should do." That is what I feel is happening here when Greenmarine continues to talk about how this is a 'new turn' in MMORPGs, trying to balance the PvP and PvE aspects of gaming. It's great, but it's their job to do it.

Read the hundreds of pages that were created giving a full outline to what the smuggler content should be sometime last year.

Then read the replies from developers recently saying: "We need you to put your ideas into some type of design document so we can understand what you want."

How many times are you supposed to beat your head against a brick wall before you stop?

We can give all the feedback we want, but in the end, it isSOE that ultimately has the final say and we will not know how it turns out until next year. At least.

Exactly Salty. We've given these ideas before. They were well documented. Hell, a couple of people hosted large Smuggler design documents on other web sites for anyone to read.

And then after all of that was done, we started getting messages here saying: "We need you guys to start organizing the ideas you want for a revamp".

So everyone did that again.

And then once more, the posts appeared "What we really need you to do is consolidate all of your ideas so we can get an idea of what you want from this revamp".

I commend the smugglers who are still beating their heads against that wall. They have thicker skulls than I do.

The smuggler with the most bruises and gaping wounds on his head is Caylin for sure, and he's one of the reasons I came back from my haitus. He is the one who should have been the Smuggler Correspondent from the beginning.

For myself, my head hurts from the banging so I'm going to give myself a break from re-giving the same ideas I have been giving since I started posting here.
