Thread: Maybe instead of Bad Slice

we should call it "Unlucky slice"? As I agree with the statement that any slice that works is good, the item is better than it was before.

good point, unfortunately, we can call it what we want; the customer will most likely still call it a bad slice.

Both. Its like saying that only getting a 5hp gain is a bad thing. Sure 10 or 15hp would be better but 5 is still better than when you started. Bad would indicate that the end result is worse than before you started,so I guess my beef maybe is with the grammer. There are prefered slices, Personally I prefer a damage slice over a speed slice, some prefer a speed slice. I understand that a particular slice may be undesirable, if that is the case might I suggest selling the now improved weapon and buying one or maybe even two more ,depending on how much you sell it for and trying to get the prefered slice. That brings us to Bad @ss slices ,like a 35% damage slice on some mongo geo hammer of death or something.

This is just my opinion of slicing and every chance I get I will say it there is no such thing as a bad slice. Once again for the cheap seats /shout THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD SLICE. Thankyou.

LOL funny thing jandel is I'm agreein with you.

Instead of bad slice it should be called unlucky slice. Why? Because the luck for getting a 35% slice was not with them. I agree that any slice is better than a base weapon.

Ahhhhhh..... This topic brings back memories.

I used to be a huge supporter of trying to eliminate the use of the term "bad slice". The term "bad slice" waslargely introduced by the firstgeneration of Master Smugglers. In doing this, they createdthe customer perception that any slice below 20% was indeed somethingnot to be happy about. As someone who spent a lot of time at Slicing4 before attaining master, this really pissed me off. with a cap of 30% on weapons, this didnt leave me a whole heck of a lot of room for success. I posted argument after argument as to why telling our customers that anything less than 20% is bad. Of course I always recieved the atypical responses..... "Dont tell me what to do."............."Anything less than 20% IS bad"...........and IMO the worst..."I don't even charge for slices less than 20%".

. So often in viideo games, we look at the ends rather than the means. It's more important to make sure that your character has the best of everything instead of bonding with random instances and items which we find on our journey. You know, the things that are really supposed to make the game fun.

At the very least, all it takes is for one guy to say : "I can solo Krayts with my Krayt Modified Republic Blaster because I got a 33% damage slice" for another guy to say "Crap, I want one of those too." Dude buys himself one for couple 100K, takes it to his local slicer.....BOOM! 22% slice. "$h!t that stinks" the guy says. "I'll never be able to solo with this." Hence, the bad slice.

The problem is that because we're all so concerned about having the absolute most uber weapon/armor, most of our customers conveniently forget the Golden Rule of slicing: "SLICING IS RANDOM". When someone recieves a sub-par slice, this instantly gives the smuggler an opportunity to respond. So, instead of reinforcing the perception that anything less than 20% is a "bad slice", why don't we do the opposite and remind our customers that slicing is random, while still trying to make a positive comment? I never bought the argument that its good for business to be nice to your customers by giving freebies for these low slices. At the end of the day, there's enough demand for our services where we can all make a healthy living in spite of any competition we may run across. Plus, people who are only at Slicing4 (All masters have been there and should be able to empathize) have it difficult already without having to overcome the mis-perception that anything less than 20% is bad.

All that being said.... you can do 2 things:

1. Tell people that sub-20% slices are "bad", thus selfishly reinforcing the misperception.

2. Try to reform customer perception, by reinforcing the randomness of slicing while remaining positive, and helping the profession as a whole.

Me, personally, I don't care what you all do anymore. I've spewed out these arguments long enough to know that just like pricing cartels, this issue will never have anykind of unaniminity. So do whatever the hell you want.

I'll be keeping things positive.

I still like "unlucky" slice. Takes the heat off of us and puts it on them.
