Coming back to the game after being away for a while and am starting a smuggler on a new server. I am curious if the grind to get unarmed 4 is perceived to be easier or harder now than it was before?
Thanks!

Get buffed...get some good kinetic ubese....get some burnout sauce...and it's a breeze.

Welcome back. It is probably not any harder or easier than before but since you have done it before, it may not be so bad. If you have some credits to get you started, this is what I would suggest:
1. Get a suit of ubese armor.
2. Get a set of speed sliced VKs.
3. Geta full 6 stat doc buff.
4. Get a mind buff or some brandy. Take 2 brandies at a time if you don't get a mind buff.
You are already familiar with the skills so I won't get into those. Head to Dantooine and pull a quenker (not savage)mission or just find one out in the wild. Kill the quenker and you will have UH I in brawler. It will take a while, you will take a bit of a beating, but you only need 1000 xp for the first box and the quenker will get you 3000 xp. It will also get you halfway to UH II. Go get trained.
Come back and kill another quenker. That should get you to UH II. Go get trained.
Come back and do one quenker mission. That will most likely get you all the way to UH III. Go get trained.
Come back and do quenker missions until you get up to UH IV. You should be able to do all of this on one buff. I did UH for the first time in July of '03 and it took me almost a week of beating on durnis and corellian butterflies to get up to UH IV. This is much much faster.
Important tip: If you target a lair and use your spin attack, you will hit every mob every time. They will not dodge and you will not miss. They may even give up a turn to heal the lairinstead of attacking you. I usually ran straight to the lairs and started spinning (I've leveled UH in brawler on 3 diff toons). I think you can get your brawler pain out of the way if you can afford the gear and don't mind beating on the same mob for 15 minutes or so.

I thought the VK did like 6 points of damage in the hands of anything less than a TK....

the VK will slightly lower your damage (as I recall I did about 65-85 dmg with the VK and about 100-110 without), but the speed slice will allow you to swing much much faster than if you were bare knuckled, and this makes up for the damage reduction

the speed slice on a VK and the burnout sauce and you can still end up hitting for 60+ when doing UH I - IV ... damage going up with each box a little of course ...
