Why not rename the profession "Scoundrel" and do a brand new smuggli'n smuggler profession... you all that have played KotoR know what i mean...
I hate reffering to the movies, but Han Solo wasent the kind of guy that made spice in his little home lab and tampered with weaponry to increase the damage or speed, I bet he wasent pushing loot at the Jawas either, and I really dont think he had any real connections within the imperial army or rebel army so he could get a person promoted to colonel just by bribing the recruiter a gazillion times.
But i do know he shoots first and ask questions later, and i bet he uses lowblow alot.
Smugglers smuggle, we owe jabba money and do the kessel run in 4 parsecs, we are always in trouble with the athorities and we do not care, aslong we haul in the loot and do not have to dump the spice in cold space.
Hmm this went from a suggestion to a rant... oh well, something useful might come of this post

that's an old idea yes, but unfortunately the dev's aren't going to fix that at all, this for several reasons :
1. There are lots of smugglers in the universe, and they are a true real existant consistant part of the economy/world/society.
2. Scoundrel would not be something consensual enough, you know, SOE and LA want the game to be very very cool with content, no offense to any kind of potential customer. So no illegal names or features more than what we have.
3. Smuggler is one of the iconography of Star Wars, along with droids and spacefights (ok, you can add guys in robes holdingfluo tubes too). The true legend of Star Wars is Han Solo, he's the one who makes everything happens (willingly or not).
4. There would be a massive protest from us (but i guess they don't care about it).

It is important to remember that Solo was not the only example of a smuggler in the SW universe.

i totally agree, and my model would probably be more Talon Karrde than Han Solo, but Han is the one people know, even if they don't read the books or are well updated with the extanded universe. People like Dash Rendar too should not be forgotten.
