Thread: An Idea to Make Smuggler more Smugglerly

I think that Smugglers need to be able to do something that they can't do now: smuggle. One of the ways they could smuggle things would be to steal them. And not from NPCs, but from other PCs. I'm talking about pickpocketing and also stealing from harvestors, vendors, houses, stealing entities like droids, etc. Now I know you're going to say "That'd never work because then people would complain when there stuff was stolen." This would be able to work because stealing would work like bases, they'd only be vulnerable for a certain time period, but the players themselves could be stolen from at anytime.

One of the ways that the system could work would be like this:

Bob a SWG Player is walking through Sunny Mos Eisley when Bill the Smuggler notices him, as Bob walks toward a crowd, Bill tails him. As Bill enters the crowd, Bob begins to pickpocket him for something Bob has in the pack on hsi back. But Bob has some valuable stuff in there and is keeping his eye on it. Bob notices Bill, and Bill now has an automatic TEF for everyone in the area, which at the same time, Bob automatically yells, "Help! I'm being robbed!" All the other PCs would then try and take Bill down, if maybe after one minute Bill hasn't been killed, Local police would then agro on Bill, and maybe move into the area, if local police still can't get him after 2-3 minutes, the Empire would then join in the pursuit until the TEF would terminate (after 10 min) or after Bill was apprehended/killed. If Bill's TEF expired, Bob would then get a window similar to a group invite window saying "Bill escaped, would you like to place a bounty on him? If you clicked "yes", another window would pop up saying "Please enter the amount that you are willing to pay for him to be killed/captured. Then Bill would be put on the BH boards, but if Bill was killed, Bob would be able to take no action except loot Bill for his stuff back.

Now, Bob has a nice house right on the coast of Vreni Island. Bill is doing some exploring on Vreni Island when he sees Bob's house. Bill feels like today is his lucky day and decides to have his crew come on in to help him loot Bob's house. Bill first slices the lock to the main entrance, he could've blasted it, but somebody would've noticed. Bill successfully slices the lock and the house computer automatically shuts down the security systems. Bill and crew can now get in without a fight. But Bob happens to have a successfulmining company and has credits to burn. So he has a few security guards in the house. They see Bill and his stealing crew without them noticing the guards. They reactivate the house security system and the security cameras get all of Bill's friend's identities and ships them to the local police. Bill and crew then suddenly get ambushed with weapon turrets built into the wall. As they begina hasty retreat, they trigger a new which captures 2 of the 5 men. The remaining three escape to their waiting starship and to space. The house owner is notified, and decides to let the local police deal with the entangle 2, and places 20,000 credit bounties on the other 3. But also gives the local police the option to capture them. Now those 3 are known by security forces throughout the galaxy as criminals. As their ship drops out of hyperspace in the Naboo sector, they see many security forces about. The fly around for awhile before a nearby Star Destroyer scans them and matches the ship with a ship that blasted its way out of Vreni Island. Suddenly that space is filled with TIEs, and the three guys are killed in teh conflict, which void and bounty claims that Bob can place.

Its a well thought Idea, and I like how in the end you can place a Bounty on the smuggler, which would add player bounties on smugglers which is needed. But people would use this as a grief tactic. I mean Id hate to have something in game stolen off of me, and it would seem unfair. This is probably the only problem with the idea, and most likely the reason the Devs wont think about it.

I also have thought of this type of idea and i must say you are a genious. This would be awesome because there is an action and reaction type of thing so if your stuff is taken most all the time you can get it back, I love it. Keep up the awesome ideas.

Beeing able to steal from other players NEVER works out good. To much grief, to much whine.

Ever played one of those browser based games?

Either you farm the new players for ressources and it is all common

or

There is a high morality in the game and stealing is a big no-no, and IF someone does that one gets bombed out of the universe.

Sheesh, one time someone pissed me so of I gave an Omega Order to my alliance. What an Omega Order is? Total elimination of all activa of the target.

Once again, we're transporters, we make deliveries, we don't rob, we don't assakt, we don't grief, we deal with illegal materials for sure, but, we could even not know it.

Dealing with illegal matters do not have to bring us into the thief content. We're not going to steal people, not going to to rob banks, not going toassault any dancer, not going to be crime lords (that doesn't mean i don't want this profession in game, that's just it's not the smuggler one).

We don't need to be thieves to get a bounty or our heads, we can have troubles with either NPC gangs (Jabba, Borvo, Valerian, Nyax, Erran sif...) or we can fail into players missions to carry contraband.

Hmm why not let us slice into the bank. Like once each week. If we cut the wrong wire we are put on the bounty hunter terms. If we succed we get like 100k or somthing. This dont requier much work to get if you are doing combat anyway.

But there cant be a 100% chance of success. The reason for this is because the bank have better security systems than the missin terms. So with molucular clamps you get like 95% chance of success(Best i could think of atm)

I think this would add some more interst so the smuggler profession. And also the risk of getting cought for your crimes

once again it makes us thieves (as you mention it, we commit crimes), not smugglers. I'm not against the idea of a thif profession, but i'm not for it to be included in the smuggler tree. Even slicing is something apart from smuggling. originally i think it was intended to make us feel like we could tinker our own weapons and take some advantage of this, like Han modified his DL44, but the slicer's icon in star wars is more Gant, the guy who gets into networks, breaks security codes, breaks encrypted transmissions.. he worls for a smuggler (Talon Karrde) but he isn't one by himself. Another example of a slicer could be R2-D2, who is not really the kind of "character" you could imagine abusing banks.
