Thread: Illegal Modifications to Ships

Many people want us to be able to slice ship components. What i'm suggesting however is to allow smugglers to modify their ship chassis. They could make it so depending on the smuggler's skill we could change different things like adding another weapons hardpoint or increasing the mass the ship can hold by a small percent. And to make it so a smuggler's ship can end up highly modified over time, like the Millenium Falcon they could add a timer, say like one modification every two weeks, so a smuggler who's had a ship for a long time will have it so customized that it will be truly their ship, not just a ship. Some things could only be changed once like mass, while others could be done a bunch of times like adding more weapon slots or a backup shield generator. The only way to make it so this doesn't really unbalance space would be to make it so the ship chassis loses all of it's modifications if it's deeded. I personally don't want to end up a chassis slice monkey. To make these modifications really illegal they could make it so RSF, Corsec, and the Empire have a chance of detecting the changes and attacking you in space, or even placing a bounty on your head if you manage to get away or kill the attackers. Anyone have any feedback/suggestions?

(Sorry if the formating is a little messed up, Firefox makes it automatically be in HTML mode and i only know three HTML commands)

I like the idea of Illegal ship modifications, but new wepon hardpoints would be hard to code in for every ship, and like you said, you can keep adding them. The extra mass would be good, but I think modifying the parts would be better. I want an insanely fast ship, not one with more firepower than a Corellian Battle Cruiser (made up name ).

I don't think there is a corellian battle cruiser lol....

Smugglers should be able to modify thier ships....just look at teh Falcon, but it should be a tradeoff, some parts of teh ship are not as durable for the increased performance.

Too bad the gave it to the shipwrights as RE then to smugglers as slicing...
