I know, it's a song title.. but it's how i'm feeling. i'm getting dis-illusioned with smuggler prof. and the way it's been handled in this game. there is so much that could be done with it, yet it seems to be on the permanent back burner. all the creative juices have been simmered out, leaving a bitter tasting sludge on my plate... after reading about the DE revamp, the insta-uber chef remix, and following the leadup and inception of the "path of the Golden Children" my enjoyment of the game has steadily dimineshed. even after buying JTL i'm feeling the weight of the "gods of Grinding"(to quote a fellow smugler in here)on my back. everyone who had a resource vendor has either pulled all the important resources, and mastered Shipwright in less than a day, or jacked up the prices to obscene levels. some of you will say it's because it's the FOTM. i say it's just because the high mucky-mucks (black man, Thundrheart, etc) don't realy care one way or the other about the smugglers, or any other Professions that are lacking content. all they seem to care about is keeping the anyone who's got the cash, and the "i'm an uber-l33t-dood-PvP-i'll-grief-you-and-call-it-fair-play-but-cry-"foul"-
if-you-don't-drop-after-the-first-shot" mentality. Case in Point:

Lightsabers can cut through everything, giving jeedai warriors(intentional mis-spelling) a rather unfair advantage. but when looking through the steel resources, Cortosis is one "flavor" of it. that steel should have an inate resistance to the jeedai sabers, according to the SW Mythology... now, this is not a rant against the jeedai, or a cry of "smuggler revamp now!". i'm just getting something off my chest. it's getting harder and harder to log in and enjoy myself, to the point where i'm actualy casting about for a new MMORPG.

i'm pretty sure that if you've reached this far in this (for me) massive post, you're not the one star ninja type. i'm not doing this becasue i need to up my post count. it's just me trying to regain my enthusiasm for this slowly dying game....

thanks for listening...

A reason to stay?

Nope cant do it. I can just relate my story.

I had been a Master Bounty Hunter for quite a while. I enjoyed PvP, PvE, and generally running around laying waste to what ever I felt like. At that time Master Scout was required so I complemented my template with a bit of Ranger. With this combo I was routinly earning very good creds, missions + harvesting. I and my little guild were known as being reliable providers of animal products to several of our servers bigger armor smiths, pharmaceutical producers and chefs.

Then came the removal of Master Scout. And likemost BHs,I did it and started monkeying around with my template, eventually I worked up Unarmed, and grabbed Novice Smuggler. I decided to go whole hog and started slowly gutting my BH to raise my Smuggler. Then I made it to Master Smuggler.

In a fevered pitch I grabbed a food factory and started cranking out spices, loaded up my vendor and started buying weaponry, slicing it and selling on my vendor too. It was a new type of play for me. Then it happened. Challenged to a duel. Now as a MBH I had no problems, never lost to a ranged fighter, only melee types that got too close. I found that I was more or less completely defenseless. Sure I could knock em down, and do some damage but nothing like the damage he was doing to my mind.

I wrote it off as a fluke, quickly re-mastered pistoleer to beef up and complement my template. Then got into a fray with my guild, a big ol pvp row. Again I was totally out matched by anyone that could do mind damage. Sure I could flop down on the ground and eat a bunch of wounds but I wasnt doing anyone any damage if they focused upon me.

So I thought ok, change tactics. Bought the foods, bought a bunch of better weapons, re-arranged my specials etc. Then thought to test it against a guildie friend. Same results as before, I couldnt damage him faster than he could take down my mind. I did well against other pistoleers, carbiner types and even commandos but anyone with a mind damaging special totally trounced me.

At this point I became totally disenchanted by smuggler. I could tick of theshortfalls like a mantra.

-Useless Underworld Skills
-2 sellable spices
-Random slicing not affected by my Master status
-Nice pistol specials but no skill mods
-Clumbsey and cumbersome method of selling FP

The list goes on. I was too tired to re-skill back to a prof that I enjoyed (BH) so when the announcement of Combat Revamp Delay hit, I canceled.

Thats right I left the game. Totally left, didnt read the forums the SWG home site, nothing, I was thoroughly disgusted.

What I needed was in fact, simply a break and some distance. JTL hit and I came back. Since then Ive had a perspective change. All of the original problems with Smuggler remain, but for some reason, I just cant give it up. Im now enjoying it for what it is, not what I think it should be. I still havent decided how long I'll hold onto it but I have no immediate plans of dropping it. Basically Ive found Smuggler to be very situational in PvP, but you have the points for TKM and Pistoleer which will then allow you to PvP again...thats what I did and am enjoying it.

Smuggler, play it for what it is, not what it should be, then hope like the rest of us that a revamp will come. Or, just start working on FS and join the Jedi. Heh.

Stay because your Smuggler bretheren love you! Besides, the glory of another MMO will fizzle quite fast. Although we (all SWG players) have our problems it is unlikely that any other game will have this depth! Like the previous post join said just join the rank of Jedi or master your pilot skills and just stay off the ground

True our revamp seems lost to the sands of time but i'm confident that it will get made. It pains me to have to wait this long and to be made to keep waiting and at times i really wanna hit the cancel button but i cant do it. I started playing SWG about a week after release. I got my copy over in the states on a college trip from the UK. I spent my last 30-50$ on it (forget now lol). While my firneds went on a weekend to New York i stayed in Boston and tried loading it up on there machines. It was a no go so i had to wait till i got back home. When i did get back i didnt go to bed. I had flown god knows how many thousand miles, had 4 lay overs when we should have had none. in all it took nearly 20 odd hours to get back home and i didnt go to bed. I loaded up SWG and waited. When i first got into the game i was amazed. I took scout as a starting proff and mos espa as my starting city. It was mind blowing. Dnacers and musicians in the cantina playing that memorable song from a new hope. Folks running around looking busy. Those first few weeks were brilliant. Just exploring and finding my place in the game. My first trip to Fort Tusken and Jabbas Palace. Its safe to say i didnt leave Tatooine for the first 3 weeks lol and when i did it was such a shock. Instead of a big yellow blur i saw a big green blur lol. Just seeing water for the first time was amazing. Kinda rambling abit, sorry for that lol.

Then i met him, the first Master Smuggler i saw on Naritus. I forget his name now but he was a Mon Cal and was slicing out of espa cantina. He sliced my pistol and i asked him what i needed to do to become a smuggler. He told me the requirements and i went on my way. It was a tough slog. Back then id consider myself a casual player and even that was questionable since i spent 3 months at a time away from the game while i went to Uni. I did it though, i got my Master Ttitle about 10/11 months ago and havent looked back since. Sure i have thought about dropping it and have gotten angry at soe on many occassions but i decieded to get back to what i loved most about the proffession, playing a smuggler. Whenever i get a chance i roleplay as a smuggler in most cantinas i go into, eisley is my hot spot so to speak. I started slicing again but only for those that look me up and come to me, i NEVER advertise my illiegal activity hehe. With the arrival of jtl i'm confident that we Smugglers will get a revamp sooner rather than later. The reason i think SOE is quite where our proffession is conserned is they dont want to put a date down and realise they cannot commit to that date thus letting us down again and probably creating the final straw for many Smugglers. I think SOE are well aware of our sour attitude and i think they understand and agree with us completly, they are just trying to avoid another let down. Caylin and Wes are ontop of the situation and have many great ideas that the devs have just GOT to be reading, it would be criminal not to. Ok so the revamp might not be till next year  in the mean time you have jtl to keep you busy as i know ALL Smugglers will want that Master Pilot title to compliment there current list along with your multi passanger ship. If JtL doesnt interest you then try this.

Remember why you became a Smuggler, what got you hooked into its grimey little paws. Remember that and start doing it again.Be it slicing, creating spice, selling FP or just being a low down rotten scoundral lol. Remember your roots and why your here and it'll totaly refresh your playing expireince. Trust me, thats what ive done and i am begining to enjoy myself again

I cancelled my subscription about 2 months ago, and it expires in a week. In that time, I've distanced myself from the game, seeing if a break was the cureall. For me it wasn't. I've played since beta 2, I've had designs on smuggler since day one, and I've beta tested JTL. I logged in last night, and I just don't feel it anymore. Most of my friends have left the game or grind endlessly to get their FS skills. Sure, JTL provides a needed distraction, but it can't hide the fact that things on the ground aren't great.

I'm leaving the game for EQ2. While I enjoy Star Wars, I don't enjoy SWG, and I feel that the EQ universe is far more immersive and will be much more in-depth than this game. I also have a ready-made group that I'm rejoining, whereas everyone I've known in SWG is gone. The only true sense of community I've ever felt is on the Smuggler boards, and that is the one thing that I will miss. The ideas presented here were fantastic, and it's a crying shame that the developers were unable or unwilling to apply some of them. This is by far the best forum in the game.

So, why should you stay when everyday there is another correspondent leaving and another board veteran calling it quits? The only reason I can offer is that when my subscription runs out, these boards will be just a tad bit less negative, as I very seldom had anything good to say to the development team. I never disparaged other players, but as a shareholder and customer, I felt obligated to express my displeasure with the SOE Austin crew.

In other words, you have the departure of another master smuggler to look forward to. I can offer nothing else.

My advice is this: quit now. Don't just quit the profession, quit the game.

Cancel your account.

I say this not because I cancelled (I did), not because I bear ill-will towards SOE (I do), but because I think if you're on the fence, you're better off cancelling and taking a break. Apparently, SOETyrant agrees with me. He'd rather see people just take a break than get completely fed up and quit the way I did, most likely never to return.

If you think there's a chance you'll enjoy SWG again at some point, quit now and wait for something to entice you to return. If nothing ever does, well, better a permanent breakup where you can still have fond memories, than a divorce where you have nothing but disdain (at least) for the other party.

For my part, I'd recommend COH, precisely because of its differences from SWG. SWG is huge, sprawling, cumbersome, and unweildy. Because it's "just so big", the developers are constantly chasing their tails fixing the same things they fixed the last time around, never seeing the forest for the trees, and never realizing that it will take MAJOR overhauls of pretty much all core systems to make this game what it should be and make it Star Wars (which it most certainly isn't). If you're like me, you came to the game to get a star wars experience. When the game ceases to give you that, why stick around? There are plenty of other games out there that are functionally just as good if not better. When it comes to combat, COH is FAR better in my opinion, because they focused ALL their initial development resources JUST on that issue. Now they're starting to expand, but they got it right and built a serious functional foundation from the get-go. SWG never did that, which is why we're seeing revamps of core systems a year and a half after launch.

SOETyrant seems to have good ideas for the team and the direction of this game, but as I've said elsewhere, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. All his good ideas won't mean squat if they're never fully implemented, and if there's one thing I've learned from SOE, it's that good ideas often fall apart on implementation. Imperial Crackdown anyone?

So my advice is save yourself the aggravation and the money and just quit. There's plenty of good single player games out there, too, by the way. If you're digging the space combat of JTL, I'd recommend the old X-Wing games.

Smugglers fall short in every way imaginable and franky there is no point in playing them from a substance standpoint. I am a Master Smuggler simply for style's sake. I like walking around with "Rogue" over my head and basically acting like a Smuggler. My other skills allow me to go out and do just about anything I want to do in the game so I just keep it to keep it. Hopefully one day I will actually be able to do Smugglery stuff that is not completley made up of player content. Untill then I am a Smuggler, may not be what I do but it is what I am.

Just stay cause:

1. To demostrate DEVs we are more stubborn than them.

2. To attack the conscience of Tiggs and TH so they can't sleep. (Man they have to feel guilty about us)

3. Just to be in the best comunity of SWG and probaly any MMORPGs ever.....
