Thread: Smuggler as a stand alone PvE proffession?

Long story short, i like to do a little this and that.

A whole lot of piloting, mixed with some ship building, and i'd like to do a little PvE on the ground, run the oddd quest or two, etc. Maybe even sell spices on the side, or buy Faction perks for cheap. That and given my mercenary nature with factions, it might even compliment my playstyle if "sell out" is still in the tree. Given that i might still have a respec for the next few days, i might drop master SW for master smuggler, and then just regrind SW (Expensive, but quick)

Anyway, without the skills sheet infront of me, im kinda wondering how smuggler by itself does in PvE. Anyone?

it works by itself but its it would be tricky.

Your DPS isnt great and we only really have "reckless shot" as a damaging shot but saying that, concussion shot then reckless shot works great against melee mobs.

If your in a group then you will go great but solo play is a little more difficult so expect to feign death alot hehe.

*flips his collar up*

Smuggler/shipwright is the coolest.

Smuggler's actually pretty nice on its own. You only do okay damage and you get beat up fairly easily, but it makes a great addition to a group, and then the slicing/spice/faction stuff can be fun, too. It's not the best solo combat profession, but roots help in that, and anyway, what level 54 stuff is so great to solo in the first place?

I like it about a hundred times more since the CU came around, that's for sure.

next question.

How in demand are smugglers for groups?

I mean, if all i have to do is let out one single "LFG", and then toss out a debuff here or there while the group does the rest.. that sounds about laid back enough for me. lol.

Well the low CL people love me since you can pull with a low level rifle and then root the mob (melee) and everyone can just blast away at it.

If panic shot and lowblow worked a bit better we would gods of grouping!

The only problem smuggler has in PvE is that it gets a little less +GRA (general ranged accuracy) and +GRS (general ranged speed) than other elite combat professions. That said, it does tend to offset the CL54 you'll get from being a master smuggler, since your overalldamage output will be less than other professions (if you were to take, say, master rifleman or master TKA instead of smuggler).

Nonetheless, the special abilities do make smuggler work (and will work better once fixed), so smuggler can work on it's own. I would advise heavy investment into Instant Stim-Ds or Es for tight situations though
