With the focus of devs on 'push related issues' lately, I thought it might be interesting to examine what a 'push' really is.
thanks to dictionary.com...
Push
1. To apply pressure against for the purpose of moving
2. To move (an object) by exerting force against it; thrust or shove
3. To force (one's way)
4.To urge forward or urge insistently; pressure
5.To bear hard upon; press
6. To exert downward pressure on (a button or keyboard, for example); press
8. Informal: To approach in age
9. Slang
a. To promote or sell ( a product)
b. To sell (a narcotic) illegally
Etc, etc.
None of these things are good, in my opinion.
I've been in several 'pushes' before in my job (software development) and they are never good. Thanks to external pressures (the schedule, sales, budget, etc), people doing the work get overworked, compromises get made, features get slashed without implementing an intelligent alternative... and as a result you get a half-a$$ed product that doesn't make ANYONE happy.
Not to mention the fact that the following comment is very common: "If it's been a bug for that long, people can live with it."
I can't wait to see what's going to be pushed on us. I always enjoy it when someone forces their way upon me and exerts downward pressure on my gaming experience. I am awaiting the thrusting with eager anticipation.
