Haven't been on the boards for awhile, so I don't know if this has been brought up or not yet. Looking at TH's in Dev post about JTLS it looks like professions intergration into the expansion is still being concieved and worked on. One thing I was always hoping for with our profession is that a smugglar could call his or her ship anywhere.

The idea of us being able to leave a planet from a revine or a remote plateau seems to me so much more in vain with our profession then having to use the starport. Illicit drops and pick ups, that sort of thing. I don't thing (due to game mechs in place) that we'd be able to land anywhere on the planet. That would require another interface and I don't think we'll get it. But calling a ship, that should just be a permission of sorts I would think.

Plus, for all the pain we've gone through that would be a nice carrot at the end of it. What do you all think?

I have only Three Words for this:

"Docking Bay 94"

I am all for Giving Smuggler some perks seeing as how we have been crapped on for a long time, But this shouldn't be one of them. Personaly I think any ship we use should have extra storage for smuggling things.

I Think spice should be made Illegal and Anyone caught getting on a Public Shuttle with Spice should be punished. If they want thier Spice moved from one place to another, Contact a smuggler that can help them with that.

Give me a Ring and I will Take you to wherever you want to Go, I'll meet you in Docking Bay 94

From what I gather:

We'll be slicing all the ship mods that enhance normal ships... so at the very least, all our own components are pretty much garaunteed of being modified.

There was some talk about allowing smugglers to call their ships at both shuttleports and starports. In addition to allowing smugglers to land at both shuttle and starports.Whereas everyone else will only be able tofly from starports.

That would be decent, and Allow for smuggling of Spice on Planetside.

ENFORCE THE SPICE RULE!

I certainly can't argue with the docking bay 94 comment, but let us remember that Han wasn't smuggling at that point, but looking for work.

There are equal number of examples in both the movies and EU where smugglers would not land ships at a star port for illicit dealings. RoTj's landing the Imperial Shuttle in the woods and not at a facility comes to mind quickly. ESB, Han landed on a asteroid! I would think rebel smugglers should be able to land at places like the rebel outpost on Rori and the like (or a similarly set up player outpost). This would also give us purpose in the GCW.

Even for passanger travel, if a smuggler isgoing to have a leg up on thepublic transport systemwe need to provide some benefit since price probably won't be it. Just a suggestion and I appreciate the dialoge.

sounds like some good ideas coming forth

however

the devs will not be looking at this forum (smugger) at ALL for JTL stuff

i really doubt they will

this should go in the JTL forum

the smuggler revamp is supposed to come before JTL comes out, so I doubt we'll get any JTL specific content

but ya never know

we can only pray

I know that I"ve specifically asked TH for information concerning the expansion and the smuggler profession.

If they are going to continue and keep telling us we are more of a 'space expansion' profession, then they need to start backing it up.

Excellent! I bet they hoped the space expansion dev team would take care of it....

I think before we can be able to smuggle anything for players, they need to completely revamp starports, with customs, seperate docking bays, etc.

Going to WoW.

This game blows.

Wow,

Great to see you in here Caylin. You've always been top shelf. I for one am watching the next couple patches like a hawk. To be honest, haven't logged in the game for several months and I'm holding out hope. Some of the new content scares me (I fear the looming BH-Jedi wars) and some of it is very exciting. The smuggler revamp is obviously in that vain.

Just to add a bit to the sugguestion that we can call our ships (and perhaps land them) outside of starports:

1. Why do you want to be a smuggler: It would up the 'cool-ness' and fun-abilty of the smuggler profession a great deal. It could also be gradiated based on level. Being able to call a ship in a player city might be something granted lower then call anywhere which is a master trait. To me, this alone makes the profession 'worth it'

2. Our role in the GCW: Being able to land (which I understand is a much harder coding proposition then calling) outside of starports makes the smuggler VERY usefull to the GCW. Trying to find how we fit in? Well being able to move troops covertly certainly sounds like smuggling to me. Frankly it's the most sensible utility for the war that I see.

3. As a money making venture: We need to make money. Smuggling as a profession is usually attached in a way to greed. We should be risking our lives for profit (or nobel virtue you do gooders). Being able to charge more money then the shuttles/transports to move people around needs to provide the buyer with added benefit. So, the trip might take more time since we'll actually be travelling instead of warping. That should be cooler, but some might see that as a draw back. Yet, if we can move several people for one price, now the money situation starts making sense. If we can do it with more door to door service (again with in reason) Now we are really cooking with gas.A player city might have us on retainer just to up their traffic and aid the locals.

A few ideas.
