Thread: The best band that no one hears

Allright, seeing as though we have a punk rock thread I thought we needed a thread about a band that you love that perhaps others have not heard of. A band that you love and when you tell folks about them they go 'huh?'

The band I would have to choose is The Jam. Now I know Wes and a few other of the brits that populate the boards are going to say 'Joras, w teh F mate? The Jam are well known.' Sadly seeing as though they never broke into the American they largely remained a British phemoninon.

The two albums I would reccomend checking out are 'All Mod Cons' and 'Setting Sons'

Why did I read that "The best bands have no ears"? Hmm...

On to the subject at hand! I'd like to nomitate theTokyo basedband Buffalo Daughter. It kind of defies genres... some kind of electronic pop perhaps? No, that gives the wrong impression. Anyway, I highly recommended it.

Well... since I posted already two bands where most people think "Dude??"

Another Band I like are "Die Prinzen", very interesting mix of punk rock (instrumental) and lyrics (sung choirlike).

Next is "J.B.O.", a coverband, Germanys Wierd Al.
One highlight: Pabarotti & Friends - Roots Bloody Roots (Yes, Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots featuring Pavarotti)

"Wir sind Helden", very tricky lyrics, the leadsinger (female) sounds realy cute. My favorite songs are "Denkmal" and "Müssen nur wollen"

and something that comes not from germany. "the pillows" a japanese rockband. I don't understand the lyrics at all, but they ROCK.

We couldn't play SWG without Tiggs. Now we can =)

Haha! Yes, The Pillows is a great band. I'm sure the anime watching people out there know them from the brilliant series FLCL.

hmm good one joras...

i have TWO bands that everyone should hear, but most likely haven't.

Antarctica - they're broken up now, but they were made up from ex-members (the singer in particular) of the old indie-rock/emo band Christie Front Drive. i think they were based out of New York City. they're what you would call "atmosphreric". they've got elements of indie-rock and electronic stuff too. mostly instrumental, but with some distant echo-ey vocals lingering here and there. really good stuff for an intense make-out session haha!

Tristeza - also broken up now. but they were an ALL instrumental indie-rock band from San Deigo. they just put together some awesome pieces of music. similar to antarctica, but more analog sounding. lots of cool interesting guitar work. nothing too fancy, just... different.
members from Tristeza went on to form a band called The Album Leaf, who has toured with the likes of Sigur Ros!

I love Belle and Sebastian, but very few people have heard of them, though they were voted Best Scotish Band

And for 80s value, I'd have to mention Prefab Sprout. Steve McQueen is one of the best albums ever created.

The best band that no one hears... is played inside my head. The only problem is that when you hear it... you will never be the same.

Lee Press-On and The Nails, sadly departed but manic good fun.

The Asylum Street Spankers, beer beer beer beer, we love beer.

Mr. Bungle, classic insanity.

And the new "General Patton vs. The X-ecutioners" CD is never leaving the CD player in my car.
