Thread: A Question about Slicing Caps?

On the WS (a simliar thread is on this forum too somewhere), a guy was asking how he should slice his FWG5. In this thread it was mentioned (something new to me) that there are caps on what can be sliced.

I looked in the FAQ of this forum and sure enough it says that the Slicing cap is equal to the Crafting cap of the weapon. This does not make sense to me as i've seen a weapon with a Speed lower then the what the weapon normally would be and this weapon is sliced. The speed cap for an Elite carbine isn't mentioned on the WS forums list but its probably a fair bet to say its higher then the average pistol speed cap of 1.73. Notice that the weapon in the link below has a speed of 1.65.

Here is the screen shot of the weapon:

Could this information regarding caps be incorrect or maybe only apply to weapons crafted before the Slicing change?

Speaking only for myself, my experience, and what I've seen here in this forum:

We don't know.

There are lots of theories floating around, many of the with numbers backing up the theory. AFAIK, no dev-ish person has posted anything anywhere that says: This is how slicing works. We've been gathering and sharing information to try and discern paterns and we're not sure what is working and what is a bug.

That said, I personally have gotten slicing messages informing me that I can't slice damage b/c it would go over max. I have never gotten a message telling me I can't slice speed because of a limit. It could be that I simply haven't tried to slice a weapon that close to the speed cap. I have no reason not to believe people who have gotten that message, but I've not seen it.

Ok essentially, the devs changed slicing and didn't inform the smugglers what they could and couldn't do. Not really a big surprise though lol.

Thanks for your reply i'll have to get one of my smuggler guildies to do some testing for me maybe.
