Thread: Working on a calculator..

Hi folks,

I've recently started to work on an excel file as something of a way to pass time (in the game, ironically) that would calculate values for slicing and dps based on given inputs. The purpose of this is just to allow me to view stats before slicing it without having to use the windows calculator each time.

I do plan on posting it here for general usage when I'm completely done with it (and right now it performs a very basic yet informative base dps/mod dps calculation), but I'm looking to add more functionality to it. For starters, I'm trying to figure out how each and every single attack's damage in the game is calculated!

Based on how bizarre the calculation for modified speed is: (-6.91935E08*x^3+3.71633E05*x^2-6.75155E03*x+1)*y = z; where x = Player Speed,y = Weapon Speed, and z = Combat Speed (courtesy of SWG Wikipedia/Carbineer Correspondent), I'm not expecting this to be an easy task. Any input at all would be appreciated.

I mean, really, who could've known SOE would make that calculation so horrifically terrible.. and the funny part is that even though it's much more numerically complicated than the old system [which is (1 - 1/(speed mods*100)*player speed) btw], it still doesn't solve the problem of extreme DPS offset byweapon speeds capping at 1. Hah!

Anyway, please assume that all targets are CL80 vs CL80 with no armor and equivalent accuracy versus defense. Those modifiers will go in later, assuming some headway is made into figuring out what does how much damage via calculation.

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but isn't this very close to what you're talking about?

Sorta. That's onlythe base framework, and the stuff that I've completed thus far. Maybe I'm not being clear.I'm looking to calculate the amount of DPA (damage per attack) attacks will do. For example, a "Ranged Shot," the default ranged attack, will do DPA equal to the weapon's DPS. This varies between specials and weapons.

And if I recall right, Sniper Shot is something like maximum damage * 2.5 although I need to look that up again. That's what I'm looking for.

Basically, I'm trying to find the actual differences between professional damage output. It goes without saying that rifleman does way more damage over time than a smuggler does, but I'm looking to find out exactly how much.

More or less a little project to keep myself amused.
