Thread: R2-D2 pwn3d the Death Star
Not looking at this as a way of replacing the current slicing system, but as an additional way to do it. Could be nifty.
Good idea. Just remember...power sockets pwn R2 without a wookie to pull him out though...
- R2-D2 had a number of gizmos in his chest. Laser Knife could quite easily be one. Maybe you slap a recharge rate on it...or maybe it comes with a hefty battery cost, or something.
- R2-D2 used terminal jacks to get around some systems. Terminal bonus, people?
- Looking at the way R2 worked, he'd not cope with slicing weapons and armour - despite his engineering skills, if you look at the hyperdrive thing in Episode I, it was still a pretty hefty cable. Maybe the package would only give you Slicing -Containers- and Slicing -Terminals-. This is supported by that poor droid in the Starports...he's working on a terminal. I can't imagine any kind of R2 droid doing anything beyond "Starship" maintanance...but containers and Terminals are either as big or bigger than the R2 is.
- Not slicing, but Smuggler-related. Two words for you. Lightsaber. Woosh! We should have a smuggling compartment (perhaps 3 in each droid slot), that you can give your droid a command (such as "R2 equip 1"), and he will "equip" an item to you. It'd be good for hiding sliced weapons in, or a lightsaber. When you tell the droid to "unequip 1", it will retrieve the item. If you equip another weapon/item into the same slot (ie. your hands), it will return back to the compartment. You could maybe combine it with an action, so the droid would fire a stim, and you'd use it, or fire brandy, and you'd drink it, or whatever.
- Since when did an R2 fire a little blaster thing? WE WANT THE ZAPPY WELDER! Shorten the range a bit, and stick the zappy thing on (possibly as an alternative weapon). It could be a stun thing. A droid with stun...that WOULD be useful.
- When JTL comes out, make an Astromech required in order to "slice" your ship to make it better. It'd be able to reroute some of the computerised safety protocols, so you're engines work a smidge faster, or weapons get a little closer to overload, shields squeeze a little more power out...etc.
- Data storage. If R2 can store the "plans" for the Death Star, why can't he perhaps store a waypoint, or a control device?
- Holo-projector. Dunno what you could do with it...record little messages, and project them...have an actual holo-AFK message? I dunno...but it'd be cool.
- Droid Speak. Lots of 'em talk it...why not a "Comprehend Droid Speak" thing? R2 Droids are as human-like in their manerisms as protocols are. Why shouldn't your R2 be able to be the cranky persona...you'd just need to learn the lingo to understand them, else it'd show up as garbled letters, with the odd recognisable word, or sound that seems like an emotion. That sort of thing.
Just a few (well a lot of) thoughts.

While you cannot place things in the droid compartment on the fly, if you have something equippable/usable in the compartment, place it in your toolbar. When you hit the corresponding hotkey, instead of equipping/using it, it will pull it out of the droid without having to call the droid.

That's already been confirmed as something we will be able to do though it isn't called "slicing"

There have been data storage modules de's can put on droids since release. However, there is almost no demand for them at all so they have to be special ordered from a nice de.

I agree, personality chips should be able to be placed in the r series droids.

^^ Spoil my fun...I wanted a Woosh! ![]()

Yeah, but is it with an astro-droid? I was meaning that specifically. It could just be a "get a ship modifying tool" thing. I reckon that "tool" should be an astro-droid. And I know you can get droids as part of your crew on multi-peep craft, but...

*blink* there is? I wish I'd known...I would have got one on one of my droids. And I haven't been around here since release, so things that are obvious to you might not be for me.
Errr..... Han did not own an astro-droid. Although it might have helped, it obviously wasn't required.
