Thread: Running Missions with Smuggler Pistol line

Hi all

After a long time of constantly changing templates I finally settled on:-

Master Smuggler

Master Pistoleer

Novice WS/AS

Survey 4

Business 3

Now, I've been kinda happy with this template (still working the WS/AS bits as I'm not really a grinder) but then I bought JTL.

I'm now accruing loads of ship parts and keep thinking that Shipwright would be a nice skill to pick up. The itch to change my template is getting strong again so I'm looking at what I could drop to take on Shipwright.

Pistoleer is looking a likely candidate for dumping as I don't really run many ground missions these days and I'm not a PvP'er but I'd like some advice from anyone who only has the Smuggler pistol line. Is Smuggler Pistols enough to get by on for ground missions because I know I'll want to run the odd one here and there ?

Bear in mind I tend to run these missions unbuffed and not wearing armour, usually have a droid tank for me.

Comments and opinions gratefully accepted.

If you have a good FWG5, smuggler pistol line is enought for lvl 10-15 missions unbuffed with just an armor

Only bad point : you will shoot slowly compared to previously.... and only have AP0 guns

I may be mistaken but can't you use an SR comabt pistol and I am sure they are AP1 ? or Alternatively you can try getting your hands on some "pre-nerf" Rep Blasters which were uncerted so everyone could use them. But either way you will still be shooting a lot slower as Smuggler pistols line has got no pistol mods at all.

Ok now Im not even Nov Pistoleer yet and only a nov smugler and i can solo difficulty 16 missions with my FWG5! Without Armor and buffs. All you have to do is SPAM healthshot1 like crazy and run away once the critter starts chacing you.

I've tried close to that, I was smuggler/CH for awhile and I did ok. you can also just leave novice pistols and get use of the DX2 for the acid. And remember you can always change again if you dont like it.

You can make up for your slow speed mod with a dh17 pistol its very underappreciated in the ranks of pistols. A good weaponsmith can make you one starting at about 2 seconds, and with a good slice you can imagine how much better it can get speed wise. Plus it has a very concise range going from a mininum of one hundred so you can count on doing a pretty standard damage with them. Sure it has no armor peirceing, but if your going against creatures with armor with smuggler you are going beyond your limits anyway.

Withhealthshot and run. I can usually take down a couple to three lesser bocatts. Unarmored and without any buffs. So yu can run some fairly decent missions for credits.

Thanks very much for the responses guys, some useful points in there especially regarding weapon choice.

Sadly the template only leaves 2 spare points so novice Pistoleer is a no no, gonna miss my DX2, but hey ho, it's off to change my template I go

I've always since day one used point blank area on the lair for whatever type of grinding I needed. Xp, cash, quest, it takes most critters down the quickest. Never had any problems, hardly die, and if I do get in trouble I just use my /feign macro. (it takes off my armor and /feigns) that way my health comes back quicker (next to no encumb) then my stand macro /healdamage self /puts on armor /pointblankarea1....

SR combat pistol are maybe good at damage output, but they are SLOW like asmatic cow....

Forget about it and aim for speed, you'll deal much more damage spamming healthshot1 with a fast gun instead of having an autofire with a SR combat pistol

That's what i do..
Pistoleer 0001
Novice smuggler

Scout blaster 1.9 speed
Spamming healthshot 1.... almost 1 hit/second
Get an accagram and you action pool won't be drained in 5 shots

And as long as AP1 doesn't work on AP0 critter, you only need a republic blaster or a DX2 for AP1 critters

SR Combat Pistols are pretty slow (ones my friend makes are 3.1 or so), but a nice speed slice drops that to 2.0 or so, which starts to make them pretty effective against armored targets. I'm a smuggler/shipwright myself after a long time as a smuggler/pistoleer, so I've been messing around with these marksman pistols lately. I miss the DX2 and Geo blaster, but the marksman pistols do have a wide range of damage types, and if you shell out a bit for some high speed Gorax bones, you can make a pretty nice Tangle, Striker, or Featherweight FWG5.

What I miss most are the speed mods and defensive bonuses. I'm still okay for modest-level missions, but it takes a lot longer to kill anything, and I'm really just cannon fodder when we head out Nightsister hunting or whatever--though I suppose that's the case even as a master pistoleer compared to a real combat class, so it's not as big a loss as I imagined it'd be.
