What’s the probability of a 31% + efficiency slice on 69% base comp armor?

Sorry, can't find this info anywhere..... I have a couple of sets of armor I want to get sliced and am looking to find out what I can expect...

Slicing is random my friend, and now that you have said out loud that you are looking for an efficency slice you will be damned by the slicing gods to get effectiveness slices. Actually, the max on armor is 45%, I have hit 45% twice in two months, but I slice about 50 pieces of armor a week. Above 30% on armor you will probably see 25% or the time as a master smuggler. Also, it seems to me that I get more Encumberance (efficency) slices then I do Effectivness slices, probably a 60/40 split; so you are in luck there. You might want to buy several pieces of armor, or befriend a smith (thats what i did to get my 87% base set.) I buy sets of 69% base with stun layres for 100k each unsliced, then I slice the sets and hope for the best. I have most ofmy 90% resist set complete, but its sitting at home until I can finish it and sell it off for lots (or give it to someone if they are really nice to me.)

Long ago, some mathematician did a whole post on this...probably one of the statisticians that used to be so plentiful in this forum.

Anyway...his conclusion was that if you wanted the absolute best probability of getting a certain slice, then bring 18 identical pieces to your friendly Master Smuggler. Even then, it wasn't a 100% guarantee. But, it was in the 95% range that you would get the slice you were looking for...

That's the best information you're going to get...

James...
Hopefully someday soon I will be able to provide a close answer. I have been smuggler for four months and have written down almost all my slices ( I would say ALL my slices, but I know I've missed a few here and there). But I've recorded probably 98% of them at least. I have several pages of slices I need to work into my totals, but when I do, I'll publish the results.

I don't know the answer to your question, but from all the weapon slices I've done, I know that 31% weapon slices aren't too rare, but after that point (32% and above) it drops off drastically. Judging from my own experience (I sliced 20 suits of composite last night) I feelthat 30%+ efficiency slices are far more rare than 30%+ weapon slices. Going from memroy, of the 180 pieces I sliced, I think I had 99 efficiency slices, but only 4 or 5 of those were 30% or over. I don't think I saw a 34 or 35 slice, if so, no more than one. I saw a couple of 30's, at least one 31, and maybe a 32 and 33.

You're looking to get 90% base I can bet here...

It is all random but I would say there is a higher chance of getting a 30-31% slice then lower base armor.

well why dont we just figure it out mathematically.

first off its 1/2 that it will be an effectiveness slice.

so y*.5

And effectiveness slices range from 35%-10% = 25 effectiveness slice possibilties. And you want 5 of those.

So 5/25 = .20

Therefore y * 0.5 * 0.20 = .10y

So lets say you do 100 pieces then 10 of them should be 31-35% encum sliced

Of course im no the best at math so this could be wrong and since this doesnt seem right i must be lol.

That is exactly what I figured when our guilds armor smith asked me to slice 100 suit of 72 base effect armor. He asked me how many 90 effect suits he would get. I used that exact equation and told him that since i needed at least a 27 percent effect slice, we would probably have about 12-15 90 base suits. And ill be damned, thats exactly what we got.

Trung, Daermoth... Sorry, but your math is flawed, and here is why.

As I mentioned above, I have tracked almost all of my slices, so I know of what I speak. The odds of getting a slice at the min and max levels is much less than getting a slice in the middle values. Let me say that another way. It is not EVEN DISTRIBUTION over the range of percentages. The odds of getting a 45% encumb slice are MUCH MUCH less than getting a 35% encumb slice. It is like a bell.
I am at work, so can't quote specific values at the moment, but here is one thing I do remember: For encumb, slices in the middle ranges WERE evenly distributed. Then starting around 39 or 40% they start dropping rather quickly. Seems like I had half as many 41% slices as 35% slices, and than above 41% it really went down. I think the same thing happens at the low end. So unless you know the actual "drop-off rate", you can't predict the number of pieces.

I guess it's time to compile all my statistics and get em posted.......

Daermoth..

It IS interesting that your numbers came out exactly to what you predicted if, as I claim, the math is wrong. Obviously I am overlooking something, or your friend got lucky. I have sliced 35 full suits of composite over the last couple of nights for a friend, so let me try to put those statistics together with all my previous stats, and see what we have.

Well thanks for the advice... As it happens I have brought 35 identical suits to my friendly, and very patent, master smuggler - so hoping to get 1 good set...... As you have guessed, 31% + = 90% base......

If this game were entirely random in it's slicing system, it wouldbe 5/25 (20%) chance to get 31%+ effect slice (I can see a "thank you Captain Obvious" remark coming for that)

However, it NOT entirely random, it is like the bell-curve idea stated above.

It also depends on where you are in the random # generator. I highly suggest slicing some really cheap weapons or pieces of armor before you start on in the good stuff. If you get "better than average" slices, start slicing, if you don't, wait a bit, and slice a few more cheap things a few mins later. I can usually see if I'm on an up-swing or down-swing after 5 pieces (I use survival knives).

Agreed. It's not random. It only appears so.

The fact of the matter is that on any weapon I think the ratio I have seen so far is 1 in 4 gets me a speed slice, which is why I buy the bigger guns.

On armour i'd say it is closer to 50/50 although it tends to be biased against whatever you were hoping for,

Now if you look at the scale on armour like this.

11% to 20%

20% to 30%

30% to 45%

I'd say that most fall into that middle bracket then the extremes. Its not like a dice is rolled and if its 5 or 6 you get 30 to 45%. Id say its more likely along these lines. 1D6 ;

1 - 11% to 30%

2 - 20% to 30%

3- 20% to 30%

4- 20% to 30%

5- 20% to 30%

6 - 30% to 45%

In short it's not random but it's far too unpredictable to calculate.
