I think in the Master Slot of Smuggler there should be a smuggler's luck Mod with a +20 or something similiar to that. This number would tie into whatever skill mods given in each piloting profession. It would either decrease the chance of being hit a little bit or something like that. What does everyone think about this? Perhaps the Bounty Hunters can get something even more, or perhaps even a little better than +20? This wouldn't be a fight altering ability but just a little extra in 1 out of 10 shots.

The problem is, no one exactly knows how space-skills are going to be implimented. According to the developers, JTL is supposed to be twitch-based action. Now, if someone has me locked dead-on in his sights based upon his (not his toon's) piloting skills, how can a skill mod reasonably say he missed me? Until we know how the action is supposed to work w/in the space expansion, it is impossible for us to speculate on what sort of smuggler bonuses we should receive.

Fair enough Orcajum, but have you ever played Deus Ex? That is all FPS and twitch based, but the higher you level up in certain areas the easier it is to aim and fire. They aren't going to allow a Novice to be as effective as a Master but then again I really don't know. I think there should be something for us Smugglers and we need to start thinking on these to make our Profession better. Another thing is Smugglers are known for getaways, sneaky and cunning tactics, and being a worthy adversary against the odds. We need to be able to have something along those lines to help the situation.

A novice will be someone who doesn't practice flying, fighting in space. A master will be someone who spends a great deal of time honing THEIR skill to fly, fight in space with a ship. It will not be a war of who has more skill boxes filled in, press F1 to fire, F2 to barrelroll, F3 to loop, F1 to fire.
However IF it is like that, then alot of people will be done with this game. Me for one.

wel pax from what i read, a novice with equal twitch skill SHOULD lose to a master with equal twitch skill, soley based on the fact that the master will have more abilities and special skills with said ships and more variety and able to mount more stuff and have access to bigger better items for his ship.

The novice won't have acess to the better ships. There is a whole tree in each pilot proffessiond dedicated to different ships, there's also a droid one which I think will have better astromechs in it. Same with weapons, I can't remeber the last skill tree. So the Master will have acess to better ships and equipement to the the novice. Maybe if the novice was really really good (rl fighter pilot)he might take out a master (14 year old school kid) then again the 14 year old might win anyways cause all he does is play computer games

The novice should lose 99% of the time, yes. But according to the legand, David did slay Goliath. Sometimes people get lucky, even novices. I believe there's a saying that goes something like "Heed all advise, for even the village idiot may be right when the sage is not." I'd like the higher level pilots to have an advantage as well, but not one that is absolutely insurmountable.

The answer is going to be in the modifications.
Certs will mean that a novice pilot doesn't have the ability to have as many mods or indeed fly the strongest ships in much the same way that being allowed to fly a cessna doesn't qualify you to fly a Jet Fighter.
As you go up the trees you'll get the ability to put better mods on which will give the advantage.

Back to the subject though, about an extra ability for us in JTL...
I think we should definitely get a feign death of sorts. We use it (weather it be the old fd, just applied in space, or a new move given at master or something) and immediately our ship powers down, making the NPC believe we are fried.
Now, as far as PvP, it could work the same. The thing is, we are dealing with real people, so we will have to be smart in how we use it. Say you see someone at a distance. Don't want to fight? Fly into that asteroid, take a few "fake" hits brushing up against some asteroids, and then FD. Now, the PC chasing you COULD still just fly up and shoot the crap out of you... OR because there would be no signs that you are still alive (but notice that the PC could blow you out of the sky if he chose so) he might just decide to ditch out of the asteroid field quickly.
Or on another more likely scenario, you see someone coming off long range on your sensors, and again, don't feel like fighting it out. Hop into that nearby asteroid field and FD, hoping that you will blend in with the asteroids so the other PC doesn't notice you.
Maybe even this move will allow you to attach yourself to large asteroids, to further the disguise. This would be made even more interesting, if asteroids showed up on the radar.
Anyways, just something I came up with on the top of my head.

This is a little off topic, but yes Deus Ex kicked some serious butt! I didn't get a chance to play the second one, but I read in the reviews that it wasn't as good as the first installment.
