Thread: Does anybody have a Shout Macro for giving out Slice Percentages?
I hope the subject of this thread makes sense.
I am really looking forward to doing some big-time slicing and making some creds. (I am 150K Pistols XP away from getting Underworld 4 - my final box to fill before being eligible for Master Smuggler. I have all the AP waiting to go as well! Happy, Happy, Happy)
Although Slicing was the first tree I completed, I've pretty much refused to do any slicing for anyone and told them about the 5% maximum Master Bonus. If they insisted then I did the slicing for them.
There have been a few times when I've been asked to slice a few weapons or an armor set. I've found it difficultto shout out the slices per item as I'm doing it, especially if it's multiple items. However, I've seen some master smugglersshouting out the percentages for multiple items with ease. (I like the smugglers who have the cahones to shout out their slices even if they're bad).
Does anyone know if they're using a macro for this? Are they using multiple macros? Are they just really fast at typing?
Thanks for your help.

But usually I tell all my percentages in tells, because most of my slicing is done outside of the starport at Coronet, which is nothing but conversation spam. I like my results to be highlighted on the customer's screen in yellow so they can pick it out from all of the other shouts and talking.
If I'm not in a crowded area like that, I'll talk to them in normal /say and give them the percentage as I slice each item. You can simplify it by doing: LLC - 28% spd
They'll understand exactly what you're saying.
Let you smugglers in on my little secrets. I send slicing % resultsin an email. much easier for larger slicing orders and you can sneak in an ad for your vendor as well in ther msg
Alsostores a receipt for the customerin thereinbox so they remember who you are ![]()

You can abbreviate a bit to make it easier but it definitely helps to have some keyboard skills. You can also keep a little banter going with the customer and that helps. I usually use the colon ( : ) and thinkto myself between items. It seems to ease the tension a bit. I don't think a lot of smuggler's realize just how nervous people get when they just dumped a bunch of creds on equiptment. Some of my favorite think bubbles:
"Sheesh, that was horrible."
"I really wanted damage on that one."
"Encumberance, encumberance, encumberance"
"Give me at least one really really BIG number"
"Give me anything over 30%...anything"
Often, this will get a chuckle out of someone and it does help with the bad news. I think it helps the reputation to give the good and the bad.
I was slicing for some guy in the Coronet starport landing area and they were truly horrible. I think 2 of the 3 were below 20% but there was a guy waiting for me to finish. First thing I said to him was "I just got some truly horrible slices for that guy". His reply, "I heard". Then he started laughing and handed me 5 weapons to slice.
The word is getting out more than it used to that slicing is random. Because people know this, they will fly from planet to planet not for the highest slices but for someone that they know is not going screw them over in some way. Be proud of the 45% but don't hesitate to report that 15% slice also.
How do you do the smuggler secret handsheak ? Never done it but will like to.
This is what I do. I know it's not the end all/be all solution, but I figured I'd share best I could.
Make aliases like so:
/alias dd /rt Damage slice on the
/alias ss /rt Speed slice on the
/alias eff /rt Effectiveness slice on the
/alias enc /rt Encumbrance slice on the
Yeah, looks odd right now, but then do this
1) Trade for the items.
2) Send them a tell (not a reply, type /tell customer Here I go...)
3) Get a damage slice, type: /ddLaserCarb 30.
This will expand out to '/rt Damage slice on theLaserCarb 30.'
(/rt is 'retell' and will send a tell to the last person you sent a tell to, no matter how many other tells have come in)
This can be changed to /shout, or /say, or whatever you want, but I like using /rt because people often miss things in spacial.
Hope it helps. It's not as much work as it looks.
Most people getting items sliced easily follow your abbreviations.. I truncate everything a much as possible and find you dont need to say things like percentage, etc...
A typical armor suit for me might be like this... (all typed)
Helm 29 eff
chest 42 enc
r upper 19 eff
pants 34 enc
etc... i just use r and l to designate right or left and upper or bi to designate arm piece... havent had any issues or even anyone question what i was talking about yet.
I've taken to grouping my customers personally, I've usually got another /tell conversation going anyway so it can get hectic (especially when I'm up to my neck in customers). I never advertise and yet, I have a lot of repeat customers. Isuppose I've made myself a good reputation, and that brings mea bit of satisfaction in and of itself. Knowing that one of my customers has litterally crossed the galaxy to have me slice their gear, rather than some rent-a-slicer spamming in Coronet brings one of those famous 'smuggler grins' to my face. ![]()
