I was thinking... instead of the old red wire / blue wire, and hope you get what you are looking for... how about making slicing fun?
Like... apply some hacks to it... bring up a device... and turn knobs, flip switches etc (something where there is just a lot of possible combinations). And like, try to make it make some sense... like not just total random spots on the dial, but like a curve, as you move the dial you get closer and closer to one of the sweet spots. When you finish turning the knobs a certain way and flipping certain switches on or off... you pull the test lever to see how well (or not so well) your tweaks have affected the device. Maybe to balance it out a little.... every time you test... it uses up a little durability. And maybe skill could be used to fine tune how good your tweaks can get, or how much durability is consumed every test.
This is just a general idea... I'm sure it could be formalized a bit more. Any thoughts?

Yes. Im totally into this idea.
I don't know how they implement it but I'd love to see something that means that skillmatters.

that does sound fun, but i believe we can't ask for any new user interfaces for now. TH said something about the UI team being booked all the way through to the space expansion or something.

Sounds like it could be implemented in a similr way that crafters experiment.
Now wouldn't that open up a whole bevy of threads about slicing sequence.
