Thread: Brief history of the (indirect) Decline of (my) Smuggler's Viability

Hologrinding: Hundreds of Jedi-wannabes get "smuggler" and dump spice on the market at 1/2 the current price.

The Galactic Bazzar limit raised to 6k: Full crates of Muon and Pixie start selling for 6k from the 8k a week before, then open undercutting kicks in on the Bazzar terms game-wide. The Wake for the Spice industry is held, 2-4 and 7-9, open casket.

Devs do a fantastic job of re-vamping Chef: Spice now worthless in the face of downerless foods. The remaining spice-selling smugglers OD on their own Booster Blue, then sell the Muon and Pixie stocks at cost to get out of the business. All re-sale contracts are cancelled. The coffin lid is nailed shut on the Spice casket. It rains at the Funeral, no one shows.

Imperial Crackdown answers pleas for more "Star-Warsey" content: Subsequent "Imperial Propoganda" loading screens scare the bejesus out of the less informed clients (read: majority), no one wants to get caught by a scan team for fear of fines, loss of FP, being banned from the game, jail time, going to the fires of Hades when they die, etc.

Smuggling content added: Actual smuggling content is introduced to the game. Smugglers now gain an ability to occationally avoid contraban scans. Imperial officers and people with storage droids are rushed past security checkpoints so Smugglers can feel the full smuggling experiance without any dealy!

A bunch of stuff: Things continue to get more mundane here. Mainly depression over a smuggler revamp that gets continually weighed against, and pushed aside for, more popular or more global changes. I discover Solo Group missions on Dantoone can net more creds than spice did back inits heyday, but only if I like beating up Janta and Mokk Statues/leantos/campfires for 3.5 hrs on end.

Jedi revamp part undate set for pub 9!GCW part deuxinPub 11: Smuggler Luv finally pened in for Pub 9, then weighed against, and pushed aside for, more popular and global changes. Smuggler Luv rescheduled for Pub 11, then weighed against, and pushed aside for, more popular and global changes. Frustrated with the continual negitive response to the revamp delays, someone truly thinks "outside the box" and solves the Smuggler Revamp problem! Smuggler Luv is now officially scheduled for "later", thereby offering no real expectations to be let down!

And now...

Equip/unequip delay system introduced: FD in PvP, the best (and often only) way for many a smuggler to survive in PvP, is effectively dead. The 10+ seconds it takes to remove armor in order to avoid griefing makes a successfull FD even rarer than it already is.

Seems to me, every time the Galaxy gets an improvement, it has been at the expense of my enjoyment of this profession... What did I forget?

If you don't want me to "play the forums," then I suggest you make time playing the game more rewarding and less repetitive than "playing" here!

There is however one good point in all of this. The sheer fact that we aren't actualy that hot with our skills and abilities does mean that most smugglers you meet out there, are doing it for the love of it,. So you've effectively excluded a whole raft of min max whiners

Makes the forums a bit more readable as well.

That is an unusual way of looking at our misfortune but its also very true. The smugglers that I meet on Lowca are all of the same quality as those that post on the boards. If you are still a smuggler through all of the declines that we have experienced it is because you really wanted to be one. At this point I seldom run into someone dabbling. I used to see a lot of folks just do the pistol or slice lines but not so much after all that has happened. Its actually a pleasure to help out and train people new to the profession.

if and when we ever get a revamp at least we are assured that it can't make things much worse.

i'm a master smuggler/pistoleer/tk and i don't know the last time i used anything from my pistoleer tree or smuggler tree for combat.

Don't forget about the "bugs" in slicing resulting in 1 in 3 customers asking usto use the PU exploit. They all get mad when I tell them its a bannable offense and I won't have anything to do with it. Funny how they all say "Ohh really..I didn't know anything about that"...yeah..right then why did you make it a point of asking then? They need to get that fixed and make another public banning on it so these cheaters will see once again that they can't play that way.

Well, since the last update some smugglers seem to be noticing a decline in the number of high end slices they are recieving.....

Hmmm... I've actually notice MORE high-end slices since the last publish. I still think its as random as it ever. There will always be streaks, and people will always interpret them to mean more than they do.
