Thread: The Han Solo Trilogy...any more?

Well, I was cleaning off my bookcase today and was looking at my HS Trilogy books. I started remember the epic adventure, double-crosses, and rise of the legendary Han Solo. And I was disappointed.

Not at the story, it was completely awesome But at the lack of material and stories I had on the subject. I mean, how many books have been written about the Jedi and their political bullflop that I couldn't give less of a crap for. I love books about the underworld and dirty side of Star Wars. The Smugglers and the crime lords.

So, what set of books would be good to pick up and start on that is like the Han Solo Trilogy? With less Galactic Civil War, less hokey Jedi, and more smuggling, crime lords, and bounties. I've already been through The Bounty Hunter Wars books but they didn't quite offer the flavor I was looking for.

I've heard about The Corellian Trilogy and I figued that had to have something possibly in it I was looking for. But I dunno. Just looking for something to recapture that HST experience that's "new to me". I appreciate any answers or help

The BH Wars sucked. Sorry to whoever wrote it, but it was drier andd stalerthan week-old bread.

If you want more Han, pick up the Han Solo adventures. They predate the Han Solo Trilogy by a few years. No Jedi, no Rebellion. Just Han vs. the authorities. These books give a real sense of who Han is. I like them.

I'll agree with you on the BH Wars. At the time that I read it I was all about bounty hunters and wanting to hunt people down in SWG. Now that I think back, the story feels like a second-rate writer that was trying WAY to hard to make an intricate story.

As far as the Han Solo Adventures, I know about it to a degree...kinda lol. I know it's Han and the Corporate Sector and so on but I couldn't tell you if it was one book or 3 or what have you.

Thanks for reminding about it though

>I had a copy which included all three. I've never seen each story sold seperately, just in the Han Solo Adventures anthology I got years and years ago.

Library in a town I used to live in actually had the adventures books.

Another one is definatly "Courtship of Princess Leia" Sure, there's some force stuff... but at the heart, it's all Han...

Nickheel and all Smuggler players...STEAL THIS BOOK!

The 3-in-1 set called the Han Solo Adventures, as was mentioned above is my "Smugglers Bible". I once wrote a full review of this book and posted it on the forums, but damned if i can find it now. Anyway, here's the ISBN code if it helps

0-345-39442-9

And that's the book with all three stories in it from 1980-81, by Brian Daley and Del Rey Publishing.

Basically, Solo and Chewbacca are more nasty in these stories. And the galaxy around them is more edgy too. These stories were written before Star Wars became as mainstreamed as it is today. I've had it for years and I still get inspiration from these stories.

The Wraithportion of the X-wingseries is also great.

Granted, there's some GCW involved...but for a large part of that series, the Wraiths are portraying a pirate gang...

No Jedi, No Force, just absolutely fantastic character development and storytelling...

Matter of fact...the entire X-wing series is more than worth the money you pay for it...all highly entertaining...

Now whenever I think of smuggling, I think of that Joss Weadon show, Firefly. If you didn't see the original run, try to catch the whole series on DVD - great stuff. Best sci fi show since Farscape.

I read the Han Solo books way back when. I guess those and "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" were the first books of the "extended universe." I thought they were fun but none of the newer stuff captured my attention in the same way.

Personally, I think we should steer away from the notion of "smuggler" and instead focus more on "rogue" or "criminal." If I remember the Han Solo books well enough, I think they may havebeen something a bit more like that. We'll never really get to be true smugglers in this game because smuggling needs choke points - something the devs have said they'll never put in because of the lag and grief it would cause. The closest we'll ever get is the current system of easily beatable contraband checks. THere are no point to those since all you have to do is run away.

With some criminal style missions and a working faction system between the various Hutt and gang groups being criminals might be interesting.
