Thread: Something I've been thinking over...

I was remembering something a dev said a while back about the possibility of players who get too high of a PvP rating getting missions on them, and then this thought came to me:

They really need to include a sort of "free-fire" PvP toggle, attackable by anyone at anytime, with the consequence of the player getting a Bounty Hunter mission on them if thier PvP rating gets too high(basicly, they're wanted for homicide). Then, anyone who is normally considered an enemy(Rebel vs Imperial), don't get visibility for killing each other.

Then you'd be able to tell these people apart because your natural enemy would show up as a red dot while a non-hostile, but potential enemy, would be a yellow dot(or orange, so you can tell them apart from NPCs).

The only problem I see would be finding a way to impliment the toggle. Probably you speak to a planetary police force official to have your name removed from the list of protected individuals. Or something to that effect, basicly along the lines of Special Forces. And you can always go back to being a regular civilian.

You know there's going to be one idiot out there who'll complain about PvP, who won't understand that he doesn't have to toggle his PvP mode on.

Gee... ya mean...

kinda like the Outcasting system they originally intended? which in turn was based on ol' Ralphy boy's other game UO? Which they abandoned because it was "too confusing for the avaerage gamer" (read: not idiot proof) and also "too open to griefing" (read: people are whiny)

Gee, what else did they dumb down recently for the same reasons...

And which was, by the way, excellent, at least from what I've read in those early document archive threads. I'm getting more and more concerned about what's the average SWG player really like, the way things are going...

But the issue with UO whenIt first came out and that system was that noobs were getting massacared by the dozens by malicious players that wanted nothing more than to boost their own egos by preying on beginning players. I know, I was part of UO beta andplayed UO from launchand played for just over two years and quitwhen it just got to the point that the game was not fun anymore. All it was just one massive PVP battlefield. You couldn't go more than a few feet from city boundaries without getting jumped by gank squads. There was just massive greifing and PKing and no form of accountability. They tried to implement some kind of system where those that PKed got bannned from cities and were attacked on site, they also had bounties on them. It didn't matter though because those that were banned from NPC cities just got what they needed from friends or player vendors outside cities. But at that point the damage was done and the game started losing subscriptions.

The problem with UO was that it wasn't something you could toggle. Say an option that you could set to make yourself open PvP attackable by anyone, or set to make yourself only attackable if you agree to duel. The UO system wasn't really that hard (MHO) it was just not sufficient to curb the malicious players and came too little too late. Hell UO was and stillis one of my favorite MMORPGs before it turned into a PK fest. I had a blast playing it.

Tell me about it, I'm in this Gurk group with a commando who fails to realize he should be facing away from the lair when he uses his flamethrower...

With this system, as least you have to purposefully go PvP, unlike UO in its beginning.
