Iam currently a 3424 smuggler with very little in pistoleer andI have two questions?

1. In your opinion, is carbineer stronger than pistoleer (ie. specials, damage)?

2. Will my smuggler abilities work with a carbine?

Yes and yes....master smuggler master carbineer here. Loving it, carbines have better range and some nice attacks and all my smuggler moves work with my carbines. I have some carbines with around 980 max damage with low sac cost that I use alot and get good damage out of. I did pistols but hated the small range they have, and refuse to go rifle since it seems everyone is rifle now after CU. I would highly recommend smuggler/carbineer..so much in fact my friend used his free alt slot and made one and likes it!

I am a M Smuggler / M Carbineer. I've been a Master Smuggler since I got the game all most two years ago, and I have paired it with every combat class including all the melee classes and carbineer is my favorite.

The great thing about smuggler is that our specials complement just about any of the ranged combat classes. Unfortunatly due to lack of imagination on SOE's part it doesn't complement the melee classes very well.../shrug.

To answer your questions:

1. It all depends on what you are looking for. Carbineer is stronger damage wise with leg shot and full auto shot, but it does not have a root like pistoleer does. Carbineer does have the best snare of all the combat classes and a damn good knock down to compensate though. Pistoleer however is probably the best complement for smuggler (I played a smuggler / pistoleer for about a year) as we get added bonuses for the hand cannons. But like I said, smuggler works well with all ranged classes. So stick with what you think you will have fun with.

2. I pretty much answered question two above. Yes we can use all of our smuggler specials with a carbine, and a rifle for that matter.

If you want to root things after this next patch, then I'd suggest going with pistols.

P.S. Another good thing about carbineer is that they use battle armor. So this opens up more armor options for you as a smuggler / carbineer can use both recon and battle armor.

Good Luck with your choice.

As far as pistols compared to carbs u need to ask urself this question...Do you want a KD or a root? Simple as that. If u don't mind being 35m from ur target when shooting that is really the main difference. The carbs give a KD and snare with a nice dmg shot. Pistols give root and u already have a snare from smug but the dmg shot isn't quite as powerful as the one for carbs. I beleive all the smug specials work with carbs except for Panic Shot and LD(I have been corrected by the above posts now). And 3 posts saying the same thing

A1 - Carbineer is stronger than Pistoleer, except for speed, root, and slight defensiveabilities. Carbineer effectively sacrifices those three ideals to gain raw attack power (leg shot) and movement control (crippling shot, suppression fire). Plus, carbines can have more raw damage (something like a 1100 cap) than pistols (which have a 950 cap), leading to more damage from specials, although they'll be very slightly slower.

A2 - Yes.

Oh my dog, you're the exact place I was in smuggler for six months when I quit grinding.

As a master carbineer...

1. As far as specials in general, they're about equal, but pistols focuses more on crowd control than carbs does, and not quite as much as smuggler, so it may seem a bit redundant, though less so with the concussion change. In terms of damage, carbs beats pistols. Legshot is, if I'm not mistaken, the secondbest rangeddamageability in the game. Full Auto Area is a great AoE shot, too. Plus, you get battle armor if you go carbines, but you get recon for pistols which you already have.

2. Absolutely. All ranged abilies do.

Overall, you will benefit greatly from carbineer in the damage area. You'll also get a great KD and some AoE ability.

I am MSmuggler/MCarbines and I really enjoy it. If you want you can take a bit of pistol's (can't remember the exact tree ) and pick up stopping shot for the root.

I am interested to see how the new concussion shot will work in the Carbine build. Unfortunately it looks like it is still not working on TC correctly.

Master Smuggler / Master Carbineer here too. I definitely like it. Before CU I was a Triple Master.Post-CU I tried just about every combination of Smuggler + XXXXX I could work out. I did Smuggler/Bounty Hunter. I did Smuggler/Pistoleer. I did Smuggler/Teras Kasi(thatwas ajoke). I didSmuggler/Squad Leader (great if you have a consistentgroup). Smuggler/Combat Medic too.

Ultimately I settled with Smuggler/Commando with a healthy dose of Pistoleer, but withcommando being as broken as it is it didn't make sense, so I tried carbineer. I'd always held on to novice carbineer since evenBasic Leg Shot beats the pants offbody shots. Going all the way with it has never left me with any regrets, other than the lack of a root -- and if I dropped my Artisan Business III I could pick up the whole stopping shot line of pistoleer with ease.

The best part of it is being a smuggler in RIS armor.

It did when I was testing it. I assume nothing's changed.

My template:

Master Smuggler, Master Carbineer, Pistoleer 0-4-0-3, Novice Commando

Check it out on a template builder, 100 (I think) Speed, 280 Accuracy, decent defenses and more special attacks than you can shake a stick at. Plus full certs for Recon & Battle armor, and certed (though the enc. is high) battle armor...
