I know, this isn't a JTL forum and this doesn't have anything to do with Smugglers, but I like this forum better than the others.
Anwyay, I finally got home from work last night and jumped right into JTL. Got a little guff from the wife since I was installing during dinner, but we got past that.
So, I was playing Joraan last night. I picked my starting place, Rebel Alliance on Tatooine, and when I load, the first thing I see is some Stormtrooper yelling out to the world to "be on the lookout for Joraan Stormwing, a suspected Rebel sympathizer." I thought, "That can't be good" but went about my business anyway. (Cool addition, by the way. Nice individualized "content".)
First thing I wanted to do was go to Dath and convert all the XP I've accumulated. No problem, I've got this nice Yacht, so no waiting at the starports. I hit the ship terminal, select my Yacht and Travel. Go from Mos Espa to Tyrena, Corellia. Very nice. Hit the ship terminal there and select my Yacht. Oops. My Yacht is parked here, but the travel thingy thinks I'm still on Tatooine. Must be a bug, but I don't remember having that problem in Beta. (In fact I read someone reporting this on the Live Issues thread this morning, traveling from a starship terminal always think you're on Tatooine). So, I paid for tickets and went to Dath the old way (yes, I could have launched into space and gone to Dath that way, but I didn't know if the Yacht was made invulnerable yet, and I didn't want to have to fly the slow thing to the starport each time, guess I'll have to until they fix this bug).
So, I returned from Dath and went to see the Rebel Pilot Trainer in Mos Espa. I remember saying to myself, "Nice place for a Rebel Pilot Trainer, with all the Stormtroopers around." I happily proceed to do my first three missions with absolutely no problems in my hand-out Z95. (I'm a decent pilot, if I do say so myself, so the starter ship's good enough for me until I train a skill or two and get a new one. I will most likely not use a Y-Wing, way too slow and sluggish for me, so it'll be a Z95 for me at least until I can pilot an X-Wing.)
On the way back from my third mission, after splashing untold numbers of TIEs (they just came, wave after wave, after that transport, and I think some of them just appeared for no reason) I was stopped by one of those annoying Stormtroopers. I'd been scanned a few times before on both characters and never been found out, even with Joraan only having Novice Smuggler, so I stood there like a nice citizen and submitted to the scan. Next thing I know, he's saying I'm a Rebel and trying to shoot me. Silly Stormtrooper. I knock him on his white-plated butt and proceed to wipe the floor with him. I guess the word about me being a "suspected Rebel sympathizer" got around. But now I'm overt and have to go see a Recruiter to go covert again.
I believe this has happened to a number of people, because I saw a large number of overt people running from the starport to the trainer and back, and I don't think they are all overt for PvP in space (though I could be wrong).
My questions are:
Since this has never happened to me before, got a question. I'm going to go see the Recruiter, but it'll take an hour to become covert again. If someone kills me and I clone, will that set me back to covert permanently (or at least until this happens again)?
To keep it from happening again, got another question. If some silly Stormtrooper starts scanning me again, can I kill him and keep him from turning me overt again? In other words, if I attack him, will I become overt anyway?

If you clone you will go covert again. I dont remeber if you need to talk to the recruiter first asking to go covert though. I dont think so.
If you shoot the Stormie prior to his scan you get a temp overt flag instead of a permenant. Temp flag last 5 minutes after your last faction fight.

Good. I can deal with a TEF much better than being made permanently overt. I guess the next Stormie that starts to scan me gets the "kill first, wonder if I'd have failed the scan later" treatment.
I'll talk to the recruiter and if I don't get killed within the hour, good. If I do, same result.
