Thread: Failing with clamps

I just made Slicing 4 today but I am NOT happy at all. Simply putI fail at slicing much more often than I have a success. I keep hearing that clamps are 100% or near 100%. Out of 8 clamp assisted weapon slicing attempts I have failed all but 2 of them. I am very close to deactivating my account because every timeI advance in something in this game it is broken or just plan never worked to begin with.

If you use a molecular clamp, the text at the top of the slicing box changes to tell you the wire you should cut, it isnt a guaranteed success no matter what wire you cut.



I have never failed a slice using a clamp and ive used 20-30 of em.

erm... maybe that was worded wrong.



When you use a clamp, check the text it tells you which wire to cut.



It isnt a 'hit and random wire and be guaranteed success' thing.

Hehe... I made precisely the same mistake. Like they said above, after using the clamp, the slicing text box will tell you which wire you need to cut...

I have well over a thousand slices with clamps with no failure. Make sure you take the time and cut the right wire. If you are distracted or in a rush, mistakes are easily made.

The only time i've missed a slice using a clamp was when I was to tired to even read the screen, and clicked neg instead of pos wire.

Hey I was thinking back to my smuggler grind days and I remembered this one time I used a clamp, cut the right wire and the thing failed. I figure it must be a one in a million bug, never happened again. Anyone ever have a clamp tell you the wrong wire?

ya i had it happen when slicing a base. lol the people counting on me were pissed LOL

There used to be a bug that would jump up every so often that would mix up the text in the clamp window.


Normally blue = positive and red = negative...


But when this bug popped up it would tell you to cut the "blue negative wire" or cut the "red positive wire". If you read and cut according to which polarity you're supposed to cut (positive or negative), you would fail. But if you cut according to the color (blue or red) you would succeed.


There's also the chance lag has a factor in the occasional failure. The clamp says cut the blue wire, so you put your mouse over "blue", click, then move down to hit "OK". If it's laggy, the system sometimes doesn't immediately register your click, and while you move down to the "OK" button it actually registers the click on the red wire. That would result in a failure.


Most of the time though, failure with a clamp can be chalked up to good ol' user error. Fatigue, tiredness, being in a hurry...I've failed slices for all of these reasons. It doesn't happen often, I've failed maybe 10-15 slices as a Master Smuggler. It's sad when it happens...but it does and will happen...
