from the look of this that means that a comando wount get the snot kicked out of him by a TKM at 18 metters before he gets the chance to flame him. personaly I think this IS GOOD. but you damn well better understand that a TKM within 6 metters if going to kill you. makes the game more realitic

The maximum range for basic combat attacks will be 64 meters.
Melee will be effective at a maximum distance of 6 meters. This will tighten the look and feel of combat making it more "up close and personal".

Coupled with the Line Of Sight change, this is cool news. Suddenly we have a tactical element to combat.

Damn right.
I'm just wondering about the Line Of Sight stuff. Will pets and vehicles block LOS? Will banthas andkimos become melee infantry tanks, ala WW1? Have to wait and see, but I hope they will.

It says maximum effective range. It doesn't say maximum range, which worries me some. I can still hit with a pistol from 64m without that much invested in pistoleer at the moment. I really hope they mean maximum range or else melee will be even more ridiculous than it was.
And with the LOS response... I sure hope this means I can shoot at things from an elevated point now. That never made much sense to me.

The LOS change will benefit melee in the cities,...preprare for urban warfare.

true, but I think a ranged squad who knows what they are doing will do quite well in an urban enviroment.

LOS doesn't change crap in the Cities. LOS already functions in the cities. They're referring to the current ability to shoot directly through hills. While sometimes you can shoot through a building, normally you can't.

I think they need to do more with range and combat. I think 6m for all melee isn't sensible. 6m is about what, 18 feet? That's kind of a stretch for a fist fight. Although it makes sense for a pike, maybe a sword. I think there should be three melee ranges.
Close, 0-2m TKM.
Medium 0-4m Swords/fencers
and long 0-6m Pikes.
The same could be done for ranged weapons,
pistol range 0-20m,
carbines 0-40m
and rifles 0-60m...

Accuracy drop-off should mean more. I can hit a target at 64m with a pistol but i should do much less damage and find the shot much, much harder. /aim may actually mean something.

I never could understand how TKA can kill you when their fists don't even touch you. It's sad.
But this change is very good.
