Right for the Han Solo fans... but wouldnt a true prerequisite for "Smuggler" be Business IV?

eh, I prefer to think of business 4 as "legitimate business 4"

... the underworld business skills should be in the smuggler tree if you ask me

That would be cool! Make it so at Underworld 4, you get a "Fence" you can place in your house or business that will sell your illegal stuff. Toss in a second one at Master.

Even better, make it so illegal items can't be on a "legitimate" vendor that is regularly scanned by the Empire.

I always thought selling spice and smuggled goods was a fun idea, but getting Artisan IV and Merchant is a pretty heavy use of points for someone that's a "Smuggler".

Business are more "smuggler" like than combatskills if you ask me though

Maybe it get rough... but i rather see the "smuggler" as the sneaky little guy who say "Hey, wanna buy some... deathsticks? Booze eh? then I got the thing for you... "special import" so to say heheh"

As a businessman at heart, Im keeping business IV, especially since the announcement of the profession requirement changes and the galactic bazzar changes. I would love to see it as a prerequisite instead of unarmed IV,even more sosince we wont be getting any unarmed skills anytime soon.

Juat for the record, business IV used to be required for smuggler in beta.

Cool. I wasnt completely off then

Yeah, always weird smuggler ended up as a hybrid combat profession... Collins English Dictionary say "Someone who import or export prohibited or dutiable goods"... sounds so much more like an attempt to make money (shady business) than a combat profession

All love for Han Solo... but i would personally see them being able to pick a combat profession of their choice instead...

And going through the Underworld with Pistol experience... sounds more like a crimefighting actionmovie than smuggling lol

On the same line, blending Engineering and Domestic Arts to the Spices Line would be a thing for the spicemakers and slicers... building smuggler up as the "dark" version of artisan. Still with their "dirty fighting" techniques added to whatever combat profession they take to defend themselves.

Its weird that you bring this up, but yesterday I was looking for a website that listed all of the profession titles and when I found it, it also listed the pre-reqs for each prof. Turns out Artisan business 4 and engineering 4 used to be pre-reqs. Im guessing that was during beta? Anyone been around long enough to back that up?

Correct!

Pistol 4, Engineering 4 and Business 4 was our pre-reqs in Beta. Business XP was used for the Underworld tree in Smuggler and the Engineering pre-req was supposed to explain our slicing skills and provide us with at least some technical skills (and would nowdays have made us probable to be shipwrights as well).

Been rehashed many times. Business skills are not required to transport illegal cargo from one place to another. It may, however, require combat skills if one gets caught. A Smuggler with no business skills may make a little less because he doesn't know how to "haggle", but a Smuggler with no combat skills is toast the first time he gets caught.

Also, the sneaky little guy who says Hey, wanna buy some... deathsticks? Booze eh? then I got the thing for you... "special import" so to say heheh" isn't a Smuggler. He's the sneaky little guy the crime boss gave deathsticks to so he could go sell them in cantinas. The Smuggler is the guy you never saw who brought the deathsticks to the crime boss.

A smooth business sense can keep you out of danger much more readily than a little brawling ability. Frankly, I've always thought Business should have been our prereq and not Unarmed, if only because it makes a lot more sense for us to be merchants than smuggling monks.

My opinion these days, however (as a smuggler/shipwright), may be a little biased.

And it makes just as much sense to represent those business skills (fast talking, charisma, the ability to sell) in our prereqs as it does to go with unarmed. The choice between them seems rather arbitrary to me.

Besides, if you want to take up TKA with Smuggler, take up TKA, you've got plenty of SP after smuggler.
