Thread: How about having smugglers actually smuggle?

On my loading screens, I often see descriptions of cities -- about how low and seedy they are, or about how much illegal stuff happens there. But what sort of illegal stuff happens? The trading of Engraved Pens? Mass-murder of Kreetles?
Coincidentally, smugglers aren't really smugglers, just "drug crafters". Why don't wecorrect these two problems with one fix?
There should be, in the most crime-ridden places in the Galaxy, smuggler contacts. These guys would work for the local crimelords (Jabba, Lady Valarian, Nym, regional criminals, small-time criminals, etc) and could be used to be given smuggler assignments.At the lower levels, they would be simple delivery missions. But as you progress through the smuggler ranks (as in, as you progress up the Underworld tree), you get harder and more complex missions. For example, a basic Novice Smuggler mission might get a basic delivery mission -- take this package of E11s from Mos Espa to Jabba the Hutt. He would then get Smuggling XP. But when he gets Underworld I, it becomes a little harder -- now you need to talk to a contact seperate from the mission giver to get the WP. Underworld II would open it up from just the planet you're on to any of the primary planets (Corellia, Naboo, Tatooine, Lok) and missions would have the possibility to include fighting. Underworld III would open it up to the other planets (Dathomir, Dantooine, Rori, Talus) and every mission includes some fighting objective. Underworld IV just increases difficulty.
Thenonce you have Underworld IV, you unlock smuggler quests you can do, whichcould involve thingslike going to multiple planets, then launching into space and delivering your cargo to a freighter. There could be a million things you could have in quests like these.
Slicing could have a similar progression like Smuggling, but with weapon slicing missions (although you'd still get XP from slicing weapons for people.)
Now, of course the smugglers would retain the ability to create spice, but this allows them to actually do some smuggling. Besides, how much sense does it make for your skill with pistols to be related to how many Underworld contacts you have? 
Of course all the info above on progression isn't set in stone, it's just a suggestion to be added to by people who post. What do you guys think?

I notice you're a bit new...
Well, we have been asking the same question for...oh...about two years now.
Supposedly our smuggling content is coming "Soon"(TM) but then "Soon"(TM) has lasted for about two years now.
As for smuggling content suggestions we've seen it all. Nothing new has been suggested in at least the past 6 months so my best advice is to angrily wait around with the rest of us for "Soon"(TM) to happen or find another profession.

Oh, but didn't you hear? They're revamping slicing! Messing around with something that isn't broken instead of coming up with something new is always a good idea.

IMHO slicing was somewhat broken.. i realy wished i could have seen the face of the BH when i handed him back his Proton Carb..

Ouch! I've been fortunate enough to not recieve any 0% slices or negative slices.. but i have had tons of 2-5% slices.. those made me want to cry. Can't imagine how I would have felt with a negative slice. probablyl want to shoot myself.

Happened only once *knocks Wood* awhile ago.. and was last slice i made for someone. All slices after were my gear.. but stopped that also. increased hinderance on armor blows

Someone sliced my Proton Carb once. He's like "Awesome, I got a 6% slice!" and I was like, "Wow, that's amazing..."
