Thread: Recursive Macros are being taken out, and how this affects smugglers.

Yes, but the UI is one of the biggest selling points of the game. Even people who HATE this game and play some game they LOVE always say how they miss the UI. Not happening. Nor is it that big a deal. It's not recursive. You still have to tell the macro to go to that function every time you want that function done. So unless you made some sort of loop where the code said, "Go to UI 2" and the end of UI 1 says go to UI 1"...

IfI were to put the following macro in the F1 slot on the toolbar:

/shout SPAM;

/ui action toolbarSlot00;

This would create a looping macro, I know it does because I have done it. If they want to remove all possible ways to create a loop, they would have to remove that /ui command too. By removing that command, it also removes the ability to macro taking off your armor. Until TH or another dev says otherwise, it looks like this is going to be removed.

These idiots are fixing a symptom and not the problem. People would not be macro-idling so much if the game was actually challenging and not a grind (even without the holocrons). Unless you're a combat profession, it's boring as all hell to sit there and try and advance. Do you realize that you can complete the surveying tree before you can even complete any other tree in Artisan? And surveying is a pain in the butt and BORING. Harvesters are not worth the money dropped into them unless you find a very rich spot (that is not taken up by those super harvesters). Don't even get me started on Weaponsmith. People won't buy your stuff unless you're willing to charge very cheaply (or you're a Master and can produce the best **edit**e known to man). You won't even get the money you spent on the resources back.

I've played other games with a far more balanced leveling system. For example, City of Heroes. I'm running missions. Sure, I could hunt in the city, but missions are interesting. I can run through a plethora of missions that, while easier with a group, aren't going to kill me outright and level up easily. On SWG, I have take down twenty of those large, green monstrosities on Naboo to finish my Unarmed Tree for smuggler. The missions there are stale and repetitive. At least on CoH, you can disappear into a building and have an interesting environment.

My point is, they're fixing recursive macros, because people abuse them. People abuse them because they make the game tedious to advance through, unless you're a combat class. And even if you're a combat class, it can get tedious. They're just trying to ease the game's death, they're not addressing any of their real issues.

What some of you might not be aware of, is what this means to smugglers.

We will no longer be able to use the spice grinding macro...

and above all...

The faction grinding macro will no longer be an alternative to advanced carpal tunnel.

He recognized my comment on this (At last, I've been telling them this for a month...) so I'll see what can be done to improve the faction purchase system.

Yes everyone Panic!!

Look you can still use your macro's just put them on your tool bar and then you only have to hit 1 key to perform your buying and selling of faction points. just need to hit that key every once in a while. or are you guys that frigging Lazy.

Spice crafting macro. LOL you need a macro to do spice crafting. whimps...

All they are doing is getting rid of buff bots, and afk spammers. macro's will not be loopable, but you can still press one frigging key to loop your own damn macro. But I guess most of you guys are too fat and lazy to lift one finger.

I am happy they are removing macro looping, and hope SOE starts cracking down on 3rd party macro users.

As a musician and a smuggler, I have to admit that I am ecstatic over this. I do realize that 3rd party programs will only increase in use but any steps taken to decrease unattended play is welcome by me. We entertainers have been so marginalized by buffbots that many of the REAL performers fled the profession. We may now see the return of actual performers to the galazy now.

I know I may be checking out Theed and Coronet again after 10 months of forced isolation.

Overall, a good move but not enough by Soe. They need to figure out how to detect 3rd party program use somehow. then, this game will be truly what it was intended to be: a casual, non-uber MMO heavy on the social aspects and player driven content.

Yay!

I have a macro which I use while waiting for shuttles. It basically "activates" my ticket every 20 seconds then repeats itself. Its very handy to use when your facing a 9 min shuttle wait and you want to surf the web, make a snack, do some chores, and know that 15 mins later when you get back to the keyboard, you will be at your destination.

If I'm reading that right then you wouldn't be affected if the current ui is kept along with adding the ability to directly purchase equipment. I am curious, have you ever done a 60k order by hand like that? I personally would go mad somewhere below 10k without a macro.

Yes. I've manually done a 100k fp order before. Took me like 2-3 hours. I even got an extra tip of 1 million credits from the guy. I then took a 2 day break from SWG.

The reason I'm so adamantly against the removal of it is take for example, Image Designer. They took away the right to everybody to mitigate their stats. Now you have to find an ID to do it. You'd think there would be tons of them around, right? Wrong. There are ID's, sure. But not enough to take care of en-masse groups of people. Now remove all the buff-bot characters, and see how many truly dedicated entertainers you have that will buff us all. I am willing to bet you will have just a hard a time finding buffing entertainers than you would if buff-bots would still be around. I'm all for the removal of all the AFK Macro Grinding Entertainers in Public Cantinas. It's an eyesore, and as somebody who mastered almost all of Musician back in the days about 6 months ago, I found that it's fun to interact to a point, but it came to that point where people just came in, went AFK while they got a buff or healed, and then left. That was the majority of people. Let's face it. Even though we are in an MMORPG, the RPG Element is sorely missing. Due to SOE. I think the major problem is FORCING the majority in this game who have gotten used to not having to interact with the minority of people who actually RolePlay is the bigger issue.

But as I've said. The Majority have spoken out adamantly against this nerf. Obviously that should tell SOE something for once. I think this is the longest spoken out against nerf I've seen since BETA.

All this did was make the honest people stay honest, like puttin' in a lockon a door.

Looped macros are still possible by 3rd party software, keyboard scripters and mouse controllers.

Am not here to encourage such use as this be a violation of the rules, but as an awareness.

Then againsmugglers don't play by the rules, do they...

Yeah, if they remove recursive macros, they remove Underworld for the smuggler... which removes me from being a smuggler. Not that they care.

I love being a smuggler and have been since the start of the game... but with the neverending neglect we suffer and in light of the love given to nearly all the other professions, especially professions that aren't broken (like doc)... and also with the recent delay of some really important revamps... I'm actually considering leaving the profession.

I'm the only master smuggler in my guild, and I think the number of smugglers on my server is thinning out... it's a dying profession.

By the time we finally get some love, there won't be any smugglers left for them to give love to.

Err...not sure what server you play on, but all the buff bots I've been to were far from crappy. Alot of them give better buffs than live docs and entertainers sometimes.

Yeah but they're about as fun, entertaining and immersive as a my shoe. They take the RPG right outta the game, and make it twice as hard for ATK entertainers.

So the solution is to LEAVE IN a system that encourages crappy buff bots? That's ridiculous. This needs to happen. It will make things more difficult. That's all. Not impossible. And the reason ID's hide is because ID'ing takes too long and no one wants to actually SOCIALIZE with them, which is the point of the profession to begin with. Also it's impossible for non-masters to advance because no one in their right mind would EVER go to an ID and wait double the time it takes a master. Apples and oranges.
