I think you've got it all covered there, San. Nice post.

Something I would personally like to see us get is the ability to trade with all factions, regardless of status.

One other thing: I would like to see a percentage chance to avoid a TEF for trades that goes up based on how far up the Underworld line we are. Just a little something to throw onto the line that would make sense for our profession.

You nailed it Johny. I hope they make those changes before my 6 months expire. I would like to renew my SWG subscription.. but it is dependant on them improving the Smuggler class and giving the entire game some high end content.

I'd like to see less of an incentive to dabble in Smuggler. Move Panic Shot to Master Smuggler and I think you'll see the pistol BH/Smuggler DF combo (most devastating combo in the game) vanish.

Bonus to slicing based on xp - I like it, I've been capped on slicing xp for a long time so I have no idea how much I'd have now.

Weapons Cert - we get VK at TKA novice, that's enough for me. Republic Blaster at Master Level would be good for me.

Spice at Master Level that buffs all attributes - not sure that's such a good idea, but if so I should be low numbers and long duration IMO.

In short, make dabbling in smuggler less attractive and Mastering smuggler more rewarding.

Just my 2 credits.

It was a nice post.

A couple of comments.

I don't think we are all happy with the DF line - I think we've accepted it. It works now and works pretty darn good. I still think most of us want pistol mods, just nothing great. Bonus for slight speed: small bonus for accuracy while moving, and a bonus for dodge (which could be incorporated with our unarmed moves. All traits of the smuggler.

Also I have to chime in on the pistol cert. Stun - is the damageour pistol should do - not energy. In the high end game every friggin thing has energy resists. Give us Stun damage please. Something different - and with an AR - of course. That would make the gun most unique - the weapon type is a fine choice.

Also, there have been some great posts on what to do with the Underworld branch I would greatly appreciate TH asking for input on this from the smuggler base.

It was a nice post and I think you captured the heart of the issues. Now if we could just get a response.

Oh - one more thing -

I, too, would also like to see a third faction to join. It would add a lot - it could be the combination criminal/mercenary faction which was hinted at back in Beta.

Also, I have been hard on San in the past. I was to the point of giving up on Smuggler, but I'm hanging in there.

I know the state of our profession is not San's fault and wish to apologize if I was too beligerant in my tone. I like the fact that we are brothers and sisters and probably a closer knit profession than most. Thank you San for your efforts.

Good post, San.

In viewing this thead since this was posted Thursday, I see a few people wanting a response already. I am very new to these forums, so please forgive my ignorance, but- SHOULD we expect a reply from anyone regarding this? And if so, is it realistic to expecta reply so soon?

I got the impression that this exercise was to inform the developers, not necessarily be the beginning of a dialogue between them and the players (although personally I think that needs to happen)

Just curious, and really not trying to stir the pot or initiate a flame war.

Thanks for all the information I have found here so far, you guys are great resources.

As a profession, we were told certain issues would be looked into 2 months ago. So, a few people are getting a little antsy about a response.

For my part, I'm a Master Smuggler for the long haul...which means I'll be here when a change finally happens.

As far as wondering if we'll get a response soon, Thunderheart has started in several discussion threads lately that he would be looking at professions this week. From what I gather, this thread (and threads like it in other profession forums) was started on the directive of Thunderheart so there would be a central thread stating the problems and getting feedback from the members of the profession. Odds are, when he gets to us, he'll post a response here.

So...yeah...we're hopeful to get a response soon. If not this week, probably next week.

One more thing:

I think you should be able to tell if a Locked Container has already had a failed slice attempt made on it before purchasing it from the bazaar. There's nothing more irritating than paying 3000 creds to find some jerk is just scamming you. If that's not grief, I don't know what is.

Just a couple of thoughts -

The Hutt was supposed to be a major faction - The preview from the June 2002 Computer Gaming World listed thefactions you could align yourself to as Rebel/Imperial/Hutt.

Also, the Underworld tree IS pretty useless. Even if this game was designed to be a PvP game (though the indications from the preview disagree), their own class/percentage numbers they just posted disagree.

76% of the population is neutral with a grand total of 2.4% of the population being Overt. Yeah, let's 'balance' the game for those 2.4%.

Sorry, I don't care for PvP - can't deal with the attitude that usually goes along with it.

Great post, but I would like to state one thing on the slicing and letting Master Smugglers pick what they want to slice. Getting from Slicing 1-4 is already a grind. There are few containers out there to slice, terminals only give 100 xp ea (getting access to more terminals would help), but when you hit weapons slicing and armor slicing you still get very little actual buisness in doing it for other people. I know I eventually cranked out 4 crates of survival knives to slice to get through III/IV. Giving Master Smugglers the choice to slice speed/damage and encumb/effectiveness would take 99% of buisness away from level IV slicers out there. Master Smugglers will still charge the same amount they are now to slice if it doesn't cost them any more to do the slice.

THUS MY SUGGESTION: Give master smuggler's the choice, but introduce another tool that has to be applied like the clamp to be given that option. Make this tool require somewhat specific resources and perhaps even somewhat rare ones as well. This will make Master Smugglers charge considerably more for the slices where the outcome is pre-determined. To take it another step further perhaps even make one of the components be a master artisan schematic. We need to find ways of increasing buisness and decreasing the grind that is Spice and Slice as they stand now. I did most of spice in my spare time out on hunts, handing it out to group members for a little extra kick when needed. But slicing went slow unless I broke down and just did some grinding.

Just one thing I'd like to add. I'm getting increasingly nervous about our DF tree. It's appears to be the new dabbler favorite. One thing the Dev's can do is take a page from the CH rework...move the specials throughout the smuggler trees.

Just dont want dabblers to ruin it for the hardcore smugglers.
