Thread: Next Smuggler Correspondent?

I'd vote for me, but I'll be bugging Tiggs and TH every single day till we get an answer. So I highly doubt I'd make a good Correspondant b/c I'd probably piss off TH as much as I did Taurin.

I may not be as well known as the rest, but I've been playing nonstop since Beta 3...so if anything, I *am* dedicated to SWG...if not Smuggler.

But like I said before - I'll support any Correspondant who does the job as good if not better than Caylin did, as well as stands for what I believe in for our profession. If they are for removing Feign Death from PVP in any sense, they lose any vote I'd give them.

Hey I throw my support behind fishbrains. He may need to be a little less aggressive with the smuggler community (so that he repreents all of us and not just a piece)but I certainly would love to have that fire representaing us to the devs. Fishbrains you certainly have my vote and maybe you could actually get TH to finally respond to the post (TH please respond)..... hmmm then again maybe I shouldn't have brought that up hehe

Anyway I kinda hope they that they get someone in their so that Caylin can share whatever he found out at the summit before he leaves.

I think all the names are good people, though I really don't know any of them personally. If I had to pick I'd say Fishbrains.

I have another thought, while we will have an official correspondant, I wonder if it might not be a good idea to pick informal correspondants from each server to help the next correspondant and to make sure all the servers are represented.

Just a thought.

This would be the 'consolation prize' position eh? j/k, It's not a bad idea I just don't know what good it would do.

We tried this with Lodek whenever he was corr. I'm not really sure how effective it was. The chief idea was to help him by funneling focused discussions to him. The real problem though was the fact that so little has changed in the profession that every "new" idea is just an old idea that's been recycled, so there was very little we could actually do except to repeat the same old stuff again...so there was very little to actually communicate to him.

That was what...6 months ago? And we're still in the same boat...still no changes, and "new" ideas still recycling old ideas that those of us who have been here forever have seen a hundred times...

As Dreven mentioned, the sub-correspondent thing was tried before with LodekDall.

When I took the reigns, it took me a while before I finally decided it just wasn't worth the time and effort involved. At least for me.

  1. No matter what server you are on, your problems are the same as someone on another server as far as smuggler issues.

  2. The moment you bring those people together, it can be seen as bribingsome capable members to keep them agreeing with you. The very idea of elite members of the community with special privelages is detrimental in most situations. Example being: I hate how this sand-box experience is being handled with our 'teams'.

  3. They often expect to hear things from you directly. Often increasing your work load to a higher level than it should be, not mitigating it.

  4. You risk whatever they say being considered the words of the correspondent. Having someone speak with your voice is dangerous in every way.

  5. They can too easily become a crutch, leaving you too easily removed from the community flow and concerns.

Don't depend on others to do your work for you.You need to know without a doubt and without notice what the majority of the community needs. If you think you need to check with the team first, you arerelying too much on them.

26 August 2003 - Devs make their first detailed promise to overhaul the Smuggler profession.

27 September 2004 (03:10 PM) - Smuggler_Caylin tells fellow smugglers that he is stepping down as Smuggler Correspondent.

23 November 2004 - PillowTech switches to World of Warcraft.

I think Caylin just posted all but one of the reasons I don't like the correspondent program... just substitute "staff" for "correspondent" and "correspondent" for "sub-correspondent" and you pretty much have it... although I guess that philisophical discussion is best left for another thread at another time.

Agreed, a correspondent is there to act as a conduit for the voice of the community. He/she is responsible foreach and every post andcan add to thepolled questions, inquiries, and an deep insight to the profession. Adding more channels of communication will only cause more confusion as things can be taken wrongly in many different ways.

But, I won't be applying for the position. I don't have the time or the organizational abilitiesto put into the position.

There are several names that I would heartily support though.

fishbrains

Geevo

Wesbelden <<-------- assuming he's not the next Pistoleer cor...

Just to name a few...

To be honest, those are thenames I pushed on to Thunderheart in my resignation letter.

That's good to hear, because those were the names that I had on my list, along with JTGAlpha, and maybe MaxSteele or Nickheel if they were so inclined.

Hopefully TH will listen to our requests, so that we can all feel all warm and fuzzy after the shock of you leaving.

Odd question...but I thought I'd ask anyway

Anywho, if anyone cares to answer this I was curious what you all knew or thought about me. Like, I always kind of "placed" myself as just one of the crowd in our great profession (but probably one of the more knowledgable on Tarquinas with WookieBounty). I contemplated applying but then I thought about how Geevo, JTG, Dreven, Fishy were such better choices and then I wondered why I even thought about it. Then I thought about how I even got the 2nd most votes behind Yimaz in the Combat Balance Sand-Box crew and the Publish 9 and 11 revamp focus group.

Messed up question, ya know...but...I dunno why I bothered to ask I think it's just a matter of me wanting to see what I can't improve on or help with in here to make our profession better. Which is what I love doing. So, just seeing what I can't do better at to help out.

Oh, and I vote for Geevo. He's a lil bit more visible and vocal than Fishbrains and JTG in my opinoin. I don't think we can go bad with any of the big names just like with the Sand-Box crew. Tough choice.

Nick, I feel the same way you do most times, but rest assured you are an integral cog in the well oiled machine that is the Smuggler Community!!

In factI put you on my list, because I thought you did great when we worked together on the Revamp Focus Group. This is also why I have great respect for Geevo, and the others who worked with us. It's a big difference working with people in game on their servers or working with them through emails that aren't public. You get to know people more, and because of that I hold you two in high regard in the community.

Of course, any of the 4 horsemen are legendary and would be great, but I think that you, Geevo, and maybe even myself (at the risk of sounding arrogant) stepped up into the realm of the horsemen andTeam Smuggler (sandbox) in terms of "great smugglers in smuggling history"

Hope that lifted your spirits a bit!

So many great smugglers, so little profession info to digest....

Does it matter?

It's not like the dev's are actually going to to something FOR the smugglers...although they dont seem to have an issue
with doing something TO the smugglers.

For those of you wishing to see them replace Caylin with someone we approve of, please look for and sign the petition for a suitable replacement here in the smuggler forums. It is a petition for the Devs to pick someone we find acceptable, not necessarilly the first Dev lappy the can find
