To be fair, by definition any slices you could predict more than 50% of the time would be a pattern. Wouldn't be very useful unless you could do it at least, say, 60% of the time, though.

And for the record, I don't think any patterns will ever be found.

Fair enough. I'm just saying that to ME, if I was going to post here and say I found a pattern, it would have to be predictable 99.99%-100% of the time.

Try what i have been saying. The reason it is not 100% is because you do not know when it changes, but yes it does stay the same color for very short periods of time. I have been using this pattern for about 6 months to make sure what I was seeing was correct and did not want to post untill I felt that it really did work.

I could say hey if I get red then blue then red agan it will be a dam slice and I could be right...I could get it 4/5 times the first 5 times trying it but guess what......ITS RANDOM so next time I did it I bet I would get around 1/5 then 3/5 then 4/5 then 2/5.....know why? ITS RANDOM!!!!!!!!!

I'll take the flames, but all I'm saying is get yourself 10 weapons,of the same kind and try it. What will it hurt and tell me what you see after doing the ten weapons and for any Smugglers on the Chilastra server ill even provide the crate of weapons, clamps, knives & WUK's. Putting my money were my mouth is so to speak!!!!!

Chilly smuggler here and I am half tempted to take your money. I am half tempted to say put up a million on this and I will do it. Hell I will do it with my own supplies even. Just so that we don't have to hear another person come up with a stupid reason to say that slicing isn't RANDOM. SLICING IS RANDOM. For the love of all that is good. When you get 4 damage slices and then 6 speed slices guess what its random. When you slice the blue wire for speed 1 time and the blue wire for speed the second time its still RANDOM.

Anyway... R=Red, B=Blue, S=Speed, D=Damage.

Now...while there are occasional runs on the color of wire, and occasional runs on slice type, and occasionally the two line up, it's not consistent enough for me to stake my reputation on it.

BTW...over 100 slices, the totals are:

RS - 26

RD - 22

BS - 25

BD - 27

Blue - 52

Red - 48

Speed - 51

Damage - 49

Looks random enough to me...

these are in pairs right left then right correct? then the one on the left is the tell and the one on the right is the follow? If so the first group you had a tell of 9 out 10 second group 8 out of 10 third group 3 out of 10 fourth group 5 out of 10 fifth group 4 out 10 Which comes out to 29 out of 50. Ok, so isn't quit 80% by that test, only 58%.

Dreven if you try this one more time and on the second slice try to get damage slices. By only completing the slice if it is same as the first if it was a damage slice and then the opposite if it is a speed slice on the first. If you dont get the correct color for damage then don't do it and see what results you get.

No...columns...the left column is slices 1-50...the right starts at 51 and goes to 100...

like the other guy said, it's not accurate unless you test it with maybe 500 items. I had two complete comp suits, EACH slice was encumb except for the 18th. Talk about a string of bad luck cause the dude wanted base, but apparently it got out now i'm spammed to death of people wanting specific slices. Apparently they ask me the opposit of what they want it to be =/

Yeah, as it fully supported the existing view on slicing, I think Dreven's test of 100 knives was a pretty solid one and should end the debate for now (if it wasn't ended before it began). If anyone still thinks there's anything to support the theory in this thread, I recommend slicing 100-1000 items with this method and then reporting back here. As always with these slicing ideas, the burden of proof's on whoever thinks they've discovered something new, so if you want to convince anyone here, it'd behoove you to present a little more evidence than 10 slices.

And.. as long as the topic's up again.. am I the only one who secretly hopes that, someday, someone will find a way of predicting slices? I don't even care about what it'd do for business, or if you could only predict it 51% of the time instead of 50, I just think it'd be neat for someone to ferret out a secret after all this time. Because the truth is it can't be entirely random--it's got to be based on the last digit of pi, or zeta functions, or some other seemingly random calculation--and despite the amount of chaos in the system, someone with a great enough mind and an awful lot of time could pull a pattern out of it all. And that would be a truly amazing feat.

So if I ever seem indulgent towards the slicing theorists, that's why. Yeah yeah, we all know slicing's random, but if some maniac wants to spend their time trying to prove otherwise--and provides a more significant body of proof than 10 slices--I would like to hear about it, if only to see how they're going about attacking the problem.

Cloudchasing; "However, how many other random things are happening during the time of a slice."

Exactly...in fact it's HIGHLY likely that the same RNG is used for every random number request in the server...slicing, crafting, combat, etc. etc. etc..

Only thing that would change would be the way the random number was massaged after generation for the purpose it was generated.

I really can't believe we're having this conversation again.

I DID say a while back that the highlight of the Smuggler profession was the discussion, ad nauseum, of slicing randomness.

OH LORD! Samsaw, 58% on a sample of 100 is STATISTICALLY INSIGNIFICANT!

Get it? It's RANDOM.

Does anyone else feel that they can predict the weapon slice with about 80% accuracy?

The other day using tell slices I was able to get 7 out of 9 damage slices with some Acklay Power Hammers.
